I know that Warner takes a lot of hits on this board for underperforming, but Paramount has been getting pummeled the past couple of years. Not only with their Star Trek franchise but with movies that had no business being in the category of "big budget fantasy".

Now they're giving their investors the advance warning that this movie will do $115 Mill less than projected.

Paramount Takes $115 Million Write-Down for Movie That Isn’t Released Yet

quote:

The write-down has put an unwelcome spotlight on the project, which was conceived in 2013 by Adam Goodman, then the president of Paramount’s film group, off an idea he had bandied about with his then-4-year-old son. “Monster Trucks,” which had a budget of about $125 million, was initially scheduled for release in summer 2015 but has been postponed three times.
quote:

Paramount gave “Monster Trucks” the green light, originally as an animated film, when the studio was hungry for family entertainment that could sell toys and produce sequels, a model exemplified by competitors like Disney’s “Cars.” Paramount’s distribution deal with DreamWorks Animation had recently ended, and Paramount wanted to start making its own animated features. Along the way, “Monster Trucks” became a live-action movie with costly computer graphics. The production itself proceeded smoothly, said people familiar with the matter, but postproduction work on the special effects have contributed to the movie’s delay.

I guess you could kind of describe it as Transformers meets ET?

My guess is that when they asked focus groups how they would improve the movie, the focus groups just shrugged and walked away shaking their heads.

Someone in the focus group should have asked the studio who the heck gave this crap the green light.

That looks like something my 4 year old nephew would come up with.

I saw the trailer(I'm pretty sure I was in a theatre) and couldn't believe it was real.

My thought when I saw it in the theater was, "I would never have thought of that. Not in a million years."

The executives at Viacom couldn't manage a lemonade stand. All they have is Michael Bay, which is not a complement. The fact that they're sitting on the next Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter franchise and doing nothing with it points to their incompetence.

I remember when I first heard the animated movie was coming out. Then I saw that preview with the kid's truck getting an alien to make it cooler. When we saw that trailer in the theater I thought it looked dumb, but I could see that boys 4-11 may enjoy it.

Ooh that reminds me, I have to set Macguyver to record.

I think you guys are overreacting. It looks equally as shitty as every other pre-teen boy movie.

Yeah, how is this that different that the Herbie Volkswagen movies? I guess Herbie didn't need $100 million worth of CGI, but other than that it seems fine for a silly kids movie.

I actually thought it would have been a good kids movie. Nothing great but something kids would want to see on a Saturday afternoon.

Because Hollywood is almost completely a "who do you know" industry. Nepotism over quality every time.

It blows my mind how completely and totally out of touch they are.
