I think Animal House gets a lot of credit and points for being really the first film of its kind. But Old School is funnier and more rewatchable to me. I actually liked the characters better in Old School than Animal House. They felt more lived in rather than basic archetypes. And the combination of Vaughn and Ferrell with Wilson as the straight man was gold on screen. There is really only one scene in Animal House where I thought the actors played off each other that well and that's the dead horse scene.
Animal House is a classic and the first, so I give it a ton of respect, but if you put a gun to my head and said "choose which one to watch," it would be Old School.

Old School I thought was just another comedy. Funny, but nothing special about it. Animal House is one of those "movies everyone must see".
