Effective Seprember 30. He is 30 years my senior. Nothing really wrong he just decided to hang it up and spend time with the grandkids.

I suddenly realized today that I don't really like anyone else I work with. I'm in a bit of a depressed state.

Looking for advice or just a CSB? I'm confused.

Obviously an "I'm on the verge of suicide, please talk me down" Thread.

It's time for you to become the mentor. Good luck.

Is it wrong that I've been in the workforce for ten plus years without a "mentor"? The whole mentor thing just seems like a crutch for someone who doesn't bring any real value to the table. Maybe it's just the sector I'm in. I'm sure that if I was in something like real estate investing, then a mentor would be quite valuable.

If the hiring manager is over 50 you are going to get the job.

Nobody knows everything. You're obviously young. Mentors aren't necessarily people in your direct line of work. Figure out where you think you need to grow/learn and go find someone that excels in those areas. My guess is you'll be surprised and enriched by establishing a few of those relationships. I don't have a mentor per se but I have several business owners in related businesses that I keep in touch with on a regular basis. I just pick their brain and get advice on broad and specific topics. It's motivating/inspiring to me to be around other driven and successful people. Give it a go.

Good advice.

And off-topic, but your username has taken on a whole new meaning since you joined TD.

Ha, you could say that. It's what I've used for years on duck hunting forums. Black Lab Male = my favorite duck dog

I would just call these guys friends/colleagues. I agree that these people are important, but when I hear the word "mentor" I automatically think of the Seinfeld episode with the mentor/protege. If I had a mentor, I would probably be happy that he built enough net worth to retire comfortably in thirty years, and not be distraught.
