I am starting to really hate this new laptop

This f'n ASUS G75 2 VL is about to get thrown against the wall. I have a Toshiba external hard drive. I moved some files over to it from my Asus G74 (Windows 7) and tried to install on new one. Nope. Error message, said incorrect parameter. Wouldn't even open it.
SO I go buy a brand new seagate external hard drive. Register it, install the software, etc on Windows 7. Move some files over.
Go to the damn new laptop, it takes forever, and it will not open the damn thing and instead gives the same message. This is a brand new drive. Piece of crap.

You shouldn't really need to install any software for an external HD. Just plug it in and maybe windows will 'install' a usb driver. Copy your files to and from and be done. You're not going to be able to transfer programs over like you would documents. Those will need to be reinstalled. Hope that helps

I just want to transfer docs and videos. It's showing error when I click on the external.

Try starting over by using Windows 7 to delete the external hard drive's partitions, and then using Windows 10 to format the hard drive. Do not use the drive's included software. Uninstall all instances of it.

Why do you keep starting here?

That is my old laptop. I have videos and files I need to transfer over. I reformatted the EHD. Google search showed other Windows 10 users have had the same problems but alas, none of the solutions I found worked. Might be taking this back to best buy along with the EHD and tell them to fix it.
Update: Weird. I have four USB ports. Both external hard drives work on the right side ports as they are supposed to. Plug them in, they appear, files pop up. No problem.
Connect them to the USB ports on the left side of the laptop and keep getting the error messages.
Drivers for the left side USB ports?

Sounds like the ports are USB 2 on one side and USB 3 on the other side and there are incompatibilities with the hard drive you have.

Thanks. Sounds familiar. Oh well, I can be happy with two drives working.
