He did a fantastic job especially, this last recruiting year. That said, if CLM brings in a replacement the caliber of the last 3 we won't miss a beat & may even continue to improve the staff. Best to him in the new gig.

Will he be doing the same thing over there? Or is he getting some type of promotion? Just wondering because it would seem if it's a lateral move, that is wouldn't make much sense. Unless I'm not familiar with how these type of lateral moves go. Can someone inform me please. Thanks!

He got a promotion

quote:

USC: Source tells FootballScoop LSU’s director of player personnel Austin Thomas will be the new assistant athletic director over personnel, recruiting and NFL research at USC. Thomas was recently selected Director of Player Personnel of the year by his peers.
Thomas began working at USC in 2010 and was promoted to assistant director of recruiting / operations in 2012. In early 2013 he was offered a position as director of recruiting & player personnel at Bowling Green but shortly thereafter was offered the role at LSU which he accepted in April 2013.

Since this is on the recruiting board, wasn't he supposed to open the floodgates to Tennessee prospects? I think Frank Herron is the only Tennessee guy on the whole team and he signed before Thomas joined the staff.

I'm not trying to be negative and I believe he was very good at his job from what others say, but the recruiting impact will be minimal outside of getting Jacoby Stevens back on board.

Every recruit in the state of Tennessee wouldn't amount to a flood. More like a steady trickle, if that. Never has been a great high school talent producing state.

I think Ugo Amadi and Kyle Phillips were headed to LSU before the Chavis shenanigans. Also think Joejuan Williams would have been in the 2016 class if he weren't an EE.

Congrats to him! Sucks losing Frank and him in same year but that's the price of recruiting success I suppose.
