Mike Prada at SBNation had a feature on the best role players in the NBA.

Here's his write up: Jrue Holiday is part of the solution

quote:

There's a tendency to look at the New Orleans guards as a high-priced trio rather than as individual players. Collectively, they represent the organization's impatience building around Anthony Davis. The team doesn't fit together, is never healthy and cost too much to build in terms of dollars and future assets. All that comes down on Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon and Tyreke Evans.

But in reality, those knocks only apply universally to two of those three players. Watch the Pelicans with and without Holiday, and you immediately see the difference on both ends. Unlike his two well-compensated backcourt teammates, Holiday is a splendid fit with Anthony Davis, capable of setting The Brow up on one end and pestering his man into rushed drives at Davis' jaws on the other. When he plays, the Pelicans look like the team Alvin Gentry thought he had in preseason.

Goes on from there. A good, deep dive with images/video. Prada is sharp

No player with the injury concerns Holiday has at his age, is part of the solution.

Well, the "injury" hasn't been an issue for quite awhile, so I'm not too concerned.

I think the consensus is that Jrue and AD are part of the long term plans.

Jrue is the most underrated pg in the league.

That was a precaution. It made sense. He's shown no ill effects.

I hope you're right. I'm not a doctor, but I think those type ankle injuries don't go away. The same reason I think Bradley Beal is fricked.

There have been plenty of guys that recover from stress fractures. The problem is because they didn't do the minutes restriction last year like they were supposed to, we have to wait until next season before we can have any confidence that this is truly behind him.

Yeah. Absolutely ridiculous that happened. That type of stuff is much worse to me than bad personnel moves- everyone makes bad moves. Not everyone plays fast and loose with player health

The worry I have is trusting this recovery at a critical time for the long term future of this team. I get wanting to keep him as a core piece, he's a good player. I also get not wanting to lock up 4 or 5 years at $20-25M annually with this type of uncertainty, even with an exploding cap

If there is trade interest this summer, they should listen because they need so much help. But I doubt many teams will offer much because of the injury. Just a tough spot they are in

Agreed, QPon and Jrue should be what gets Demps fired. The problem is his boss has literally made all of the same mistakes he's made, from personnel moves that ended in gross overpaying or injury to letting a foundational piece play injured in meaningless games.
