I'm installing a Samsung Evo 850 on a Gateway NV57H94u. I did the data migration just like I did on another laptop. I went to install the SSD and got this message when I booted up. I reinstalled the old HDD and it works fine. The SSD is causing issues. Any idea what may be wrong here??

Does the BIOS show the disk is available?

I did a search and found out how to access BIOS. Not sure what any of this means. Does it answer your question?

Scroll over to the "Boot" page and show us that.

edit: Although, it appears that your drive was detected and the computer attempted to boot from it, so I'm sure everything on the Boot page will check out. You could try removing and then reseating the hard drive. If that doesn't work, maybe Windows really isn't on the drive. You said you did a "data migration"... did that just copy your data, or did it fully clone the entire old drive?

I have removed and reconnected the SSD many times so that isn't the issue I believe.

I did the fully clonevia the software that came with the Evo. I will try the clone over again to see if that fixes the issue.

In your Bios settings is there an option that says UEFI or Legacy? May need to toggle between the two settings to see if one will work.

Where would that be located on the tabs I posted?

Just re-cloned the SSD and still the same issues

A friend suggested i toggle the Sata setting between AHCI and IDE. That didnt fix it either. Still stuck

Try different cloning software. Make sure you have it set to whatever lets your HDD boot (IDE or AHCI) of course. Some cloning software has trouble cloning UEFI/GPT drives and making them bootable. Macrium reflect doesn't have that problem.

Is this what you suggest? Will the cloning program wipe the SSD clean before trying to reclone?

It should, yeah.

I have some instructions written out if you end up needing to use a partitioning program to clear space on your HDD as well: LINK

I think I'm good on space (only 85gb used on current HDD and installing a 120GB ssd. I'll follow your insstall/cloning guide.

Thanks!

Yeah, the issue is sometimes computer manufacturers will put recovery partitions and whatnot in front of OS partitions, and Macrium doesn't like it if the other partitions are too big.

Minitool partition wizard actually has its own cloning feature now. I need to rewrite my guide based on that. It probably automatically takes care of the partition sizing problem.
