Trijicon Agog, yay or nay?

The main thing that turns me off to ACOGs is the fact that they have a fixed magnification. That plus the eye relief is a bit strange. Then again, I don't have any time behind one so my opinion may not hold any water.

I prefer an adjustable low power optic (like a 1-4x or 2-7x) so that I can vary the power level if I have to do some shooting upclose. If you were to get the ACOG, as suggested by the other poster, I would also get an unmagnified dot for close range.

Trijicon seems to be the only one who has perfected using fiber optics and tritium to illuminate their reticles. I had an RMR on my handgun and just swapped it for another RMR. Their products are expensive but they are true military grade and will last forever.

ACOGs (fixed 4x) are great. Can be used in close range settings fairly well and great out to about 300m. Pretty good all around optic that is nearly indestructible.

If you are looking for a do all you will not find one but, a true 1-4x with some illumination may be a better option. Personal preference and all that...

Also one to check out are the Elcan SpecterOS 4x. Very similar reticle and comes with a QD mount for 1250 at swfa.com I've done a lot of hard shooting with both the RCO (TA31A) and Elcan. I think the elcan has better eye relief. The elcan uses batteries to illuminate the reticle (which is not necessary to use the optic but is a nice to have) as opposed to the fiber optics and tritium used in the acog. However, on typical bright days (in say... a desert) the fiber optics of the acog actually collect too much light and cause the chevron reticle to 'bleed' (ie blurry) so we all put electricians take over 4/5ths of the exposed fiber optic so reduce this and peeled it back as the light levels got lower.

Mine has the bible verse as well. I also have a 1x4 tricon scope with both fiber optics and tritium. Awesome little scope and it has a shade that you adjust the fiber light coming through built in. It has the triangle in Amber on top of the post. These are both eye open designed optics.

If I built an SPR, I would put some sort of 1-8 power optic.

Schmidt and Bender. You will never regret it as far as money spent on optics goes. If 3k is what you mean by high end.

I like mine. They aren't for everyone but they are a great optic for AR's.

I would go the variable 1-x or even 2.5-x route. Lots of good options out there.
