On a different note- do we have an extra pt QB on the roster?

Now that the kicks have been moved back to the 15, things are going to be interesting in cold weather games (not that the Saints have to worry about this). I wonder if Tebow, in Philly, will be the main XP option the second half of the season. And Cam certainly would be dangerous in that spot.
Which leads to this question- lets say we're playing the Panthers, and we're trading TDs- but they go for 2 with Cam. Or, on the road at the Eagles, and Tebow is punching it in for 2. Do we have anyone on roster who could run a Wildcat or similar, in the event we have to keep pace? Someone with even a hint of an arm, maybe played QB in college some?

Why would we want to do this when we have Brees?

Tebow/cam? Taking the ball away from Brees?

I see what you are trying to say. Itll be interesting to see how it plays out.

No. You don't take the ball away from Brees.

Because I'd rather have him on the sidelines looking at pictures of the TD drive he just had rather than being out there for every extra point just so he could be part of a trick play once in a blue moon.
Now if we're talking about going for two straight up (with no fake fg), that's a no brainer, keep Brees out there.

I doubt you would see many fake extra points as those will have to be ran from the 15. The only "trick play" I could see a team running is if the other team goes heavy with LBers & linemen; and the team audibles to a shotgun pass w/ an athletic TE or large WR. The other team would have to burn a TO, or risk a bad miss match only 15 yards out.

Why would teams be more likely to try a fake FG from the 15?
And to the OP. We'd obviously keep drew on the field

Pronto not Tonto.

That's what backup qbs are for. If it's an obvious 2 pt attempt drew is in the game.

To all those who say "keep Brees in there", consider this- true goal-line plays are very different than the regular offense. The Saints have had an awful time just blasting away on the ground (Ingram's been stuffed a lot, but don't forget that even going back to the Super Bowl season, we've been stuffed a lot). A Brees pass will have to be a quick hitter; and really, I'd rather see Brees in the gun with a bunch of receivers crossing than a tight formation.
But- a horse like Tebow gives you, for lack of a better term, options. Like running the option, while still having a semblance of a pass or handoff (or a straight keeper).
I know, sounds ridiculous, and the Saints in the dome don't really need a "specialist". But a team like the Eagles just might, and honestly, I could see the value of a Tebow just for that, especially come November and later. He'd be a real bitch to stop, and the conditions might make a kick less than 100%. If you both score 4 TDs, and they get 3/4 2pt conversions, it's 30-28. Wind and sleet/snow might make you miss a few kicks, and suddenly, you're not tied despite equal TDs, you're behind.
Hell, I saw Tampa miss a kick this week in good conditions. That's no longer a gimme kick, if you pull it, you miss now.

Either way, I'm not really thinking it's an issue the Saints will have to deal with. Carolina is about the only team in the NFC South with the potential for bad conditions that might affect a kick, and also a QB that would be a serious threat on a 2 pt conversion (meaning they'd have an advantage over us with Brees in that scenario). And yes, from the 2 for 1 play, I'd rather have Cam than Drew on that one play.
But if Tebow does make the Eagles squad, I bet he runs at least 8-10 2 pt plays this season, maybe more if they are reasonably successful.

A final note on the extra point deal- I agree with Gruden, who said he didn't like the change. It seems stupid to fool around with rules, just for the sake of it.
Does anybody really know: can a QB line up in the shotgun, and then drop-kick for the point after? I know it's archaic, but I thought it was still within the rules, until now. But if they did that from the 2, is it disallowed, or just a penalty/replay?
Also, I presume you're still allowed, in theory, to run a fake from the 15, right? If so, someone will do it, because until it's tried, the kick block team will now be completely unsuspecting it. And really, it's a fade to the TE from the 15; most backup QBs (holders) can do that easily. I wouldn't be surprised if Payton's the one that calls it first.

Apparently you have missed all those games where Drew jumps over the oline and stretches the ball across the goaline.

quote:No, I didn't. He's done that 3, maybe 4 times, and when he did it against the Dolphins the first time I was impressed like everyone else.

He's not doing that from the 2 yd line.
Ok; so the answer apparently is: no, there is nobody on the team that can run such a play. I didn't know if maybe a RB or WR had some QB or wildcat experience in college, that IF WE WANTED TO, we could use.
Thanks
