No issues with black dogs, just white ones.

This even if you don't use him every hunt train him. It'll be rewarding for you and the dog.

I have a white lab and don't have problems with the ducks spotting him. Now I usually hunt in the marsh in roseau canes or fly grass. As long as he has some cover in front of him (neck down) it's usually not an issue.

disagree. My buddy hunts with a pretty much White Lab and we hunt some spots that we have to set him on a Avery stand. We try like hell to get in good cover where they can't see him but our hunts tend to suffer when we take him
If ducks are flaring and the dog is behind cover, most likely your cover is not good enough. A white lab will not make ducks flare if he is in cover. I've killed tons of limits with my white lab.

I guess my deal is that in the marsh there are a lot of lighter colored grasses that make a white dog a lot easier to blend in. In the swamp it's all brown and green.
Do you hunt from a boat? If not I'm curious what your dog stands/sits on. The pirogue?

Shoot the ducks on first pass before they can flair with some 3-1/2" Black Clouds

Seems like your mind is already made. I would say you don't need to train the dog if you need convincing to train it.

Yep that is true. A white dog probably does blend in better in the marsh. I would try a vest to break up the color and maybe some mud for the face. You could also use a platform for trees and make some cover around the platform (either branches or mesh camo) to camo and break up the whiteness.

I hunt from a pirogue and he sits on the end of the blind.
Like this but facing the decoy spread and not sitting like a monkey

Questionable cover is not really a big issue for a black dog. Heck, we put them on stands with zero cover in the woods and kill Green but that shite doesn't work for white dogs.
All I am saying is that you have to go above and beyond to conceal the white ones where you can get away with much less to none at all with black ones. Btw, I own a practically white YLF after 5 previous Black Labs.

I had a "white" lab when I was younger. I never had a problem duck hunting with him. I just rolled extra rossos over his area.
