So, in other words, LSU and Texas A&M are being penalized for having won their first two games

Yes, getting the day off is a penalty.

so do you want a full double elimination tourney for 12 teams?
should take about 8 days and destroy all pitching staffs

Take a look at the #9 & #11 seeds and you'll have your answer. The HQ even added two teams recently to ensure a couple rarely get left out.

The teams that had good seasons get rewarded, if you finished 9th or worse in the conference, sorry and better luck next year.

2011 says hi. We finished 9th in the conference and got left out of the NCAA tourney because, according to analysts, we missed the conference tournament. Had the conference tournament been 10 teams like it was in 2012 we would have been easily in.

This

I like the set up. Allows the bubble teams to catch fire at the end of the season to win up to 5 games to boost RPI. If Bama makes it to Sunday they will be in contention to make a regional where they wouldn't have made the Tourney otherwise.

If getting a day off = being penalized, I wish my boss would penalize me more often.

Having the day off saves the pen.

It's actually huge. If Arkansas wins, they'll be playing their 5th day in a row. Florida will be playing their 4th.

Meanwhile, Poche could theoretically be available for an inning given that he only threw 35 pitches on Wednesday.

Probably so.

I thought UCLA had a chance by sweeping Oregon if we collapsed in the conference tourney but it appears our 2-0 start is enough to secure #1.

It's not a huge issue or any advantage but still pretty cool. Many years the national seeds don't seem to make much sense but #1 LSU & #2 UCLA seem to be deserved this season.

To prevent what happened to LSU in 2011 and get left out of the regionals because they were not in the SEC tourney.

Format is fine this way IMO. I wouldn't care if they let 13 and 14 in to play 12 and 11 on Monday in a single elimination then continued tourney as it is formatted now.

what also isn't talked about... for bubble teams that lose on Tuesday, it's one loss and they're done, which theoretically doesn't hurt the RPI too bad

Yeah, that extra day off really helped. If it were a true double elimination, both LSU and Texas A&M would still have a chance to win the tournament. Sounds like it was a penalty to me.

Looks like the extra day off did not help LSU or A&M as they both lost.
