I keep trying to explain to her that putting your car in park and preparing for the worst is a perfectly reasonable response when driving off isn't an option.
1. What do you think "the worst" is?
2. and based off your answer to #1, how is putting your car in the park preparing you for the worst?

We pull up at the light and three (late teen early 20s) guys jump out of the car. What do you do?
Now it turns out the three guys were literally so angry with the driver they were willing to walk across perkins in heavy traffic into the taco bell parking lot to avoid riding with him. All looked pretty damned high.
My wife is giving me grief because she saw my reverse lights blink as it went into park.
Were you blocked in to where you had no way to get out of the situation? What would you have done when one of these guys had reached into his waistband and pulled out his pistol and started letting lead fly like it was the O.K. Corral? Are you comfortable with a stoned idiot popping off rounds in the same general direction as your wife? What about other bystanders? What if there was some kid in the parking lot across the street that stopped one of those slugs?
Yeah it turned out that this situation was nothing. But at that moment when you first saw those guys, as far as you knew, there was literally a 50/50 chance one or even all of them were armed and ready to start shooting. You've got to think about these things and be a bit more wise if you ever find yourself in a similar situation again. It's not a game out there and making the mistake thinking that it is can cause serious consequences I highly doubt you're ready to accept.

You put all that, and no personal story about the time it happened to you..

Well, I've never been in a road rage incident to where the other person actually got out of their vehicle and approached me. And while I've never been in that situation, I know there's nothing out there on the road worth risking some idiot pulling a gun and wailing away, especially when my wife is right there where she could be caught in the crossfire. Unless you're literally in a corner with no way out, you get out of there and let the idiot go. It's not worth risking anyone's life over.

You are quickly becoming the worst poster on this site (that includes the likes of mizzoukills)

I was blocked in, I suppose I could have pushed the small car in front of my by going into 4LoW.
Had any pulled out a handgun and started shooting... Reverse with the wheel fully locked. They signed their own death warrants. I can put six in the air (accurately and under stress, or at least I can do it while moving and with my hands shaking from running) before the first brass touches the ground.
My wife was two cars behind them.
I cannot be held responsible for an idiot letting lead fly haphazardly. I can attempt to stop it though I would prefer not to.
I didn't do anything to warrant a violent response, merely offerred someone who could have killed his entire car load of people a friendly one fingered gesture with the accompanying words.
As for what happened when the car hit park, I already stated: I unbuckled, put my hand on the firearm, grabbed my knife from in the door, and put my left hand on the door handle and hoped the situation de-escalated before it began.
Had there been a decent outlet, or any means of parting company with them, I would have.
All of this occurred in less than a three second period.
We stop, guys jump out and slam doors, I make all prep, guys bang on their driver's window and then wander into traffic.
This wasn't a 2 minute affair. Things happen at a blur.
When the light turned green, the guy stayed a few car lengths back on my right, at evwry red light he would maintain that diatance and even leave a large gap to avoid getting next to me. Eventually ducked off down past Sonic.
