Good state of the Pelicans read from SI. Some positives, some concerns, some stats, and some thoughts about the whole situation and how they have built around Davis's unique talents. Read the entire article here

This is the final paragraph for the TL; DR crowd

quote:

To sum it all up, this Pelicans season isn't really about this season. The team's core is locked in, and given that, any signs of improvement as a unit over the next several months bode especially well for the future. They'll have to get clever in the offseason to add the role players they need, but this team could be more than a middle-tier curiosity very soon. Davis still has plenty of time before the scrutiny that comes with his team's struggles falls entirely on his shoulders. If he continues to post groundbreaking numbers like this, how much can you really nitpick? As he becomes one of the league’s signature stars and the spotlight magnifies accordingly, it will fall on New Orleans to put its superstar in the best position to win as soon as possible. Make no mistake: despite the pressure that comes with it, the opportunity to build around him is the type of problem 29 other teams would love to have.

good find

this year I have resolved to stop nitpicking and enjoy the ride for the long haul. The only thing that glares at me is it is so obvious that a dribble drive offense would make this team nigh unstoppable on offense

I've been saying this for a while. We are very impatient. This is only his third year and we are in the toughest division in sports besides the SEC West. And I think we can all agree that the Pels are beating teams this year that we would not have beat in previous years and are making some stides in play this year. We just have to make that a consistent thing.

I laughed.

ETA: I need to remember that this is an LSU board, but come on.

I don't think it's even really debateable that the SW division is the toughest.
