With the win today...

The Saints have 7 or more wins every year(except the Katrina Season) since 2000.
That includes 3 good seasons(one 10-6 and two 11-5 years), and 2 great ones(two 13-3 years). Four of those were under Payton.
People are quick to forget we went 7-9 and 8-8 in back to back years under Payton right before winning it all. "Down" years happen, but we have yet to have a truly bad year under Payton.
Now the question is can we get back to being good/great, will we be mediocre in back to back seasons for the second time under Payton, or are we really coming to the end of this great run?

I don't know but we missed a great opportunity this season to make something out of mediocrity.

That we did, but with the Oline and secondary woes it would have been tough doing anything. Not saying we couldn't catch lightning, but we were unable to do it anywhere in the last few weeks.

Sane posters like you keep me from abandoning this board. These game day only posters don't have a fricking clue.

Yep, we would have lost to the first team with an interior pressence.
We have an opportunity to get a playmaker in the first and some olineman in rounds 2-7.
We need Jenkins to take the next step on D next year

No doubt they need some more playmakers, but the biggest need is OL. Without a huge upgrade there the rest won't matter.

Based on talent and expectations combined with the way this team got run out of their own building 4-5 times I'd call this a truly bad year

We were 1 play away in about 4 games or so from going 11-5... I'm not worried and I think Drew throws for 5,000 and 40 next year... With Cooks, Graham and Stills I like our chances.. Khiry needs more touches and less injuries... Ingram can take a hike and draft a RB in the 4thish round.

With how bad we played in a few games, I think people forget this:
That's how close it can be in the NFL. People overreact a bit much.

I'd give my left but for this to have happened last year and us be picking at 12

John Jenkins? Don't think he has the want to be a constant starter and would be happy if we could at least count on him to rotate in

This year was simply frustrating. Yes, we were a few plays away from winning a few games but at the end of the day, we were going nowhere with our D. We went from 5th to 31/32 and supposedly upgraded. Certainly injuries played a part but leadership/veteran play was missing.

The loss of Jenkins and Harper in the secondary hurt a lot more than anyone could have thought. And that's not because they were great, but because they knew where to be and where to line everyone up at.
Vaccaro was too green to take on that role and Byrd never got time in in the offseason and got hurt 4 games in. I think we actually played well with Bush at safety.

It had nothing to do with want. When he is in he actually does decent.

The problem is every one of those games the defense had a lead in the final 2 minutes and gave up long scoring drives to blow it.
Then the offense decided not to show up in a few games.
Being close in a few games is all well and good, but when you can't close out games and hold leads and you lose by 3 scores in multiple games at home that's more telling that you're a pretty bad team IMO
