It's an absolute joke what he's done with that program. You'd think they've been trying to rebound from sanctions when you look at the state of affairs. A Pitt blogger put it best (paraphrasing): "Watching Pitt football is like watching a motorist plow into a storefront, put the car in reverse, then back full-speed into another storefront".

I never did understand why Pitt hired him for a second time in the first place.
He wasn't all that popular in the first go around and he's one of the higher ups that pushed for them to demolish Pitt Stadium so they could play in the Steelers stadium on a permanent basis.

holy jesus thats a tumultuous career. some bad luck, but alot of frick ups to keep getting the opportunities to make such important hiring decisions

The guy ruined Nebraska's football program and did no better at Pitt. One of the worst ADs I've seen.

Chryst is mediocre and doesn't recruit well at all. I was hoping he stayed at Pitt personally.

Because his replacement Jeff Long screwed up so bad at the job, they thought Peterson could come back and right the ship.
When Peterson got their in '97 they hadn't been to a bowl game since the 80s. They had won 1 bowl game since 1982. He hired Walt Harris who takes them to bowl games in 6 of his 8 years. Peterson gets the Nebraska AD job.
Jeff Long comes in and fires Harris, who was the Big East COY, and had just led the Panthers to the BCS Fiesta Bowl. Long hires Wanstedt & Pitt doesn't go to a bowl game the rest of Long's tenure at Pitt.
