Is Golden State that much better this year because of Steve Kerr? They were obviously pretty solid last year but I feel like they have made the jump to true contenders..

Yes. Steve Kerr is a cerebral guy that knows the game. He knows how to make an offense flow and to get the most out of guards.

This roster isn't anywhere near as good as GSW's, but it should be somewhat more competitive.

They have a group of guys that are maturing into their prime naturally.... also think Kerr is a solid coach. I questioned if he would get the guys to buy in but seems they have.

Steve Kerr could turn in to the next Phil Jackson. meaning taking an established team to the next level.

Here's Joe Lacob on Kerr

quote:

"Right now, (Kerr) looks great," Lacob said at the Western Association of Venture Capitalists/National Venture Capital Association luncheon Wednesday. "I think he will be great. And he did the one big thing that I wanted more than anything else from Mark Jackson he just wouldn't do, in all honesty, which is hire the very best.

"Carte blanche. Take my wallet. Do whatever it is to get the best assistants there are in the world. Period. End of story. Don't want to hear it. And (Jackson's) answer . . . was, 'Well, I have the best staff.' No you don't. And so with Steve, very, very different."

Lots of posters (42 and ATL in particular) have brought this very thing up with regards to Monty.

Who knows if Benson has opened up the wallet in that way (it would seem odd that he wouldn't given how much he spends on Saints staff and how the Pelicans seem to be trying to win more now). But Monty has career assistants that all seem to think the same way he does. That's inherently a problem and even more so when you have young and weird fitting players.
