The problem is Sandusky has been convicted
No matter what anyone says or writes, Winston is still innocent until proven guilty
Big difference
Was it, is it being handled wrong, absolutely.
Right now FSU is trying to cover their tracks but they are making it worse.

Nobody is saying what FSU did was worse, Sandusky story is probably the worst we will see
It's comparable in the sense that both schools valued their football program over the well being of a human being.
Is Winston guilty or innocent? We likely will never know because whatever he did the school covered up. There was no ability for justice to play out

The differences between the two scandals far outweigh the similarities.
This is a very vague similarity. Also, just because the two scandals are close on the temporal scale doesn't make them that much more similar.
And, let us keep in mind that there were multiple victims in the Penn State scandal.

The similarities lie in the schools handling. Like I said, Penn State is worse. The crimes Sandusky committed are in no way comparable. Strictly speaking about the university putting football on a pedestal

The situations are really not that similar at all. If anyone is to blame in the Winston scandal, it is Tallahassee PD, not the University or even the University PD. Tallahassee PD drug their feet, for any number of guesses as to why, and then allegedly turned the investigative file over to someone right before it went to the DA. The ball was in TPD's court from day one.
Whereas, PSU kept serial child rape from ever reaching the police.

We may never ever know the real story at FSU. All we do know is the victim felt threatened enough to leave campus after this mess. It may be a money grab or she was really sexuallyviolated. Her perception may be that she was. JW has lost all benefit of a doubt due to other transgressions. USC was hammered by the NCAA as was PSU. Ask yourself this question: what if this was happening at your school?

The cover ups or blind eye to bad behavior are Unexcusable.
What if Jameis actually is innocent? Then what?
The cover-up would in and of itself still be a crime in the same way paying someone to commit perjury is still a crime even if your client is innocent.
