You didn't understand the point that Maher, et al were making. They weren't trying to paint with a broad brush at all.
Actually yes I did fricktard. Just because I agree with Affleck's sentiment, doesn't mean I feel that it was justly leveled toward Maher or Harris. In fact, in the other thread I said that Affleck acted like a complete and utter bitch.
I was merely indicating that even given the poll numbers, this still leaves hundreds of millions of Muslims that do NOT hold super extreme views.

I was kind of hoping other liberals would bring more to this thread than falling back on the "well Christianity sucks too".
I DO think Christianity is part of the same religious sickness. As does Maher. However, the point at the forefront here is that liberals let Muslims get away with WAY more than Christians for fear of being labeled as Islamaphobic and its bullshite.

This is what Maher said. I'm not sure what your point is. Can you clarify?

Sure. In the OP, I posted polling that clearly shows that there are some bad problems inherent to the Islamic religion. Issues that have long been discarded by mainstream Christianity. Lots of people will look at that and come to the conclusion that "all Muslims suck" (see "Islam is a disease"). I simply wanted to attempt to give a shoutout to keeping the numbers in perspective and to look at them on whole. Now Im getting shite for it.

I reckon you haven't heard about this whole other thing called the New Testament.
As long as the New Testament is presented with the horseshite that is in the Old Testament, it has no credibility with me. In order to believe in the myths and fables of the old testament you have to forfeit a good part of your intelligence and believe God is a flip-flopper. He gave us laws to kill an disobedient son and to own slaves and then decided to try another method - love and forgiveness. Wow, some God. Sounds like a retard to me.
And in order for me to believe that the New Testament basically atones for all the horseshite in the Old Testament, I have to accept that God is less than perfect and realized he made a mistake in having all those death sentences from way back and had to kill his purported son as a sacrificed - a very pagan thing to do. Human sacrifice - oh gee, that makes a lot of sense.
Additionally where is the logic in the immaculate conception? The walking on waters? Turning water into wine? The story of Jesus is a beautiful one and the central message of love and forgiveness is superb. But when you present that story along with old testament crap, its like prefacing a book on child birth with the story of the stork delivering the baby.
Don't get me wrong - of all the religions, I'd rate Christianity at the top. But when you look at the Torah and the Koran, there are a lot of similarities. Both love killing for really stupid reasons. And both advocate beheading and other forms of death.
But the real probably is not the religion itself - it is the insanity of humans who have been taught that centuries old books are indeed God's law. The guy in Oklahoma was definitely influenced by the Koran. But noting happens if he isn't already insane. Same thing with gun violence - the gun by itself is harmless - its when a crazy person uses it in a killing spree that creates the tragedy. But Islam is a crap religon and its an easy way to blame it because it isn't "our belief" for the most part. Religion did not behead that woman, a crazy man did.

I don't think it's just an Islam issue. It goes a little deeper than that. It's cultural.
I dont really agree with this post as it would seem to me that Islam is a primary driver of the culture. Aside from that, there are developed areas in Muslim countries where the people have not failed at electricity etc

Abject failure on every meaningful front brings forth extremism and a desperate attempt to succeed at something. Namely, jihad. But they can't even succeed at that anymore. And that brings out more extremism.
This is just dumb.

These Christians you know are stoning their rebellious sons, and killing their daughters for lying about virginity? Really?
It is Muslims doing the stonings and honor killings. Not Christians.

Most of the people you know have mid wives/cocubines? And the fricking Amish in a thread about Muslims? Full retard. Is Jebodah running around with a slingshot telling Muslims convert or die?
Truth is your gay loving tolerant progressive Muslim buddies are the minority by a landslide, and most Muslims would justify chopping their heads off before yours.

I don't think this is the real reason. Though they would never admit it, liberals like Afleck are terrified of Muslims.

Just in this statement, you reveal your complete ignorance of the Bible. It is hard to take anyone seriously that makes statements that are so plainly incorrect.

There's no doubt that there are some sick, sick people who practice Islam, and on a per capita basis, Muslims have more sick practioners than Christians do. However, my point is that most Christians don't really take the New Testament to heart in the way they live their lives. Most Chrisitians live their lives according to the "an eye for an eye" credo not the "turn the other cheek" credo. At least Muslims are up front about what they believe. Here's how Malcolm X put it:
"There's nothing in our book, the Quran -- you call it "Ko-ran" -- that teaches us to suffer peacefully. Our religion teaches us to be intelligent. Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery. That's a good religion. In fact, that's that old-time religion. That's the one that Ma and Pa used to talk about: an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, and a head for a head, and a life for a life: That's a good religion. And doesn't nobody resent that kind of religion being taught but a wolf, who intends to make you his meal."

oh yes, he would do well some place like huffpo followers at "The View" where ignorant leftists like himself glom to, to spew their stupidity in the guise of tolerance and deflection where they turn Bush into the demon behind all the misery.

and you were posting "straw man" pics a few posts ago in this thread
that argument is pure straw man
the issue is western liberals want to promote western liberal ideals, but islam, as it is practice in the vast majority of muslim areas, is opposed to western/liberal ideas.
Christianity, pretty much everywhere, does not reject these ideals, and is a major reason for the proliferation of these ideals across the world.
that is the argument
a secondary argument is that western liberals have NO problem criticizing any socially conservative position of christianity, even though it is much more socially liberal than islam (essentially everywhere on earth). that is pure hypocrisy in ideological ideas
these polls reflect both arguments are valid

Ok, so why are Christians, living side-by-side with Muslims in the same uncivilized cultures, dealing with the same poverty in the Middle East and Africa, not violent?
Wiki Article on the Anti-balaka
Because of a useless culture. Jews and Zoroastrians would be slaughtering each other under those conditions, too, as I explained. Islam is just a particularly effective vehicle for radicalization, and has exacerbated things by have a sort of natural stunting influence on the enrichment of a culture.
