Look at the entire team, and find what positions we're weakest at.

LT: Armstead's inexperience in the only scary part. He was very good late last year and was always considered a project. If he neither improves nor falls off, it's a bit above average.

ILB: We sort of suck at. It's also the least important position on defense, especially when you have a safety like KV that can do everything.

CB: We have a great #1. We don't have a clear cut #2, but we have 3 guys that could be somewhere between slightly below average an a bit above average in Champ, PRob, and White. People too easily forget that we continued being an awesome pass defense after Greer got hurt midseason and White playing CB2. And he's expected to be our CB4 this season.

What about Center? I haven't watched the preseason extremely closely but I'm sure this is still somewhat of a question mark. I'm not overly worried about it though.

Barnwell has us around 10-6 and fighting Atlanta for the division.

most of our toughest games are at home so I wonder where he trying to go with this one.

toughest road games look to be CHI, DET, and PIT (maybe on PIT).

I guess he isn't familiar with how much of an upgrade Byrd is over Jenkins.

and I'm not sure why he has us duking it out with ATL for the division. Their defense has a lot of questions and their O-line too now I guess since Baker got hurt.

that just seems like a lazy thing to say that it will be us and ATL. Pretty much everyone has said that the last 5 years or so.

I think the NFC South will be tougher this year though. I could see Tampa Bay and Carolina finishing around 6-10 and 7-9 respectively. I think the Falcons will probably be like 7-9 or 8-8. I think there is a sense of urgency there to get better for them but with a lot of questions on defense, I just can't see them above .500

Outside of the heath of our guards I have no questions about the Oline. Center may not be the strength but it will be much better than last year.

Strief, Armstead, Evans, and Lelito/Goodwin are all good-great run blockers.

Strief, Armstead, Evans, and Grubbs are all good-great pass blockers(Goodwin may have lost a step here).

Weak at 1 CB. Mystery who can cover a slot receiver.

The back of the secondary is so good that we only need adequate 2nd/3rd CB production.

We have the talent to be at least that.

Saints are truly proven good at 4-5 positions. Then there are 6-7 that's a mixed bag.

They're good at DE/DT/CB1/both S spots/OLB. They're only really questionable at LBer and 2nd CB but I think they'll be adequate enough.

With the offense getting back to normal.,they'll only need a few stops a game and they'll likely get more TOs as well. The improved running game will help eat clock and keep guys fresh too.

This is easily the most talented D of the CSP era imo.

i hope we can get more out of the punt return team and occasionally the kickoff team.

in the Super Bowl season Roby seemed to come up with a handful of returns that helped make a difference. He took one all the way back against the Rams in a game where we weren't exactly dominant and the game was still winnable for the Rams at the end.

I'm not expecting the return units to all of a sudden be tops in the league but just improving in that area this year would be good enough.

still a little up in the air on placekicker?

also, Tampa Bay will probably have a tough defense this year under Lovie Smith but I don't see anything to be afraid of at QB. Plus their O-line looked like shite against the Jaguars when I saw a replay of that preseason game the other day.

Holder had a good point about the Center battle.

He said that he thinks it'll go to Goodwin because we know what we're getting with him.
But also because Lelito is our best guard backup, which we may need if these injuries don't clear up totally.

That is a pretty good point and I'm also leaning towards Goodwin being that he'd be more steady/has familiarity, even if Lelito has more upside and might flash more.

On the guard point, I can see that but they also gave some guard snaps to Goodwin and I think he'd be fine in that role also.

On the return game, with Sproles gone we should see a much better punt return game if Cooks is the guy.

For kickoffs, if it's still Cadet you shouldn't expect much of anything. He may have 1 or 2 better than normal returns but otherwise won't do shite. Between him and Sproles our kickoff returns have been pretty lackluster.

On TB, I agree they have line issues and the QBs aren't anything to fear, but they do have some pieces to at least move the chains now and then. And with that D being at least solid at every level they could be tough to deal with.

This is different from Carolina, who has a great front 7 but a shite show for a secondary. That is going to catch up with them. And with Cam's inconsistency and Oline issues of their own they will be up and down all year.

Atlanta? I don't think they have a chance. Too many holes all over the roster and too little depth to fill in.

With Baker I thought they could have a steady, though sub par, line. Without him they will be lucky to look better than last year. Matthews isn't ready and Asamoah is a run blocker more than a pass protector, though he has been streaky at both. Blalock is their best lineman and he is solid but that's about it.

On D they have one player to worry about.

10-6 and 12-4 ....not bad predictions. I lol at anyone laughing at those guys predictions. The nfc south turns over so much every year that no one guesses it right. They had to make an educated guess. They even admitted with the unpredictability the last few years that they'd probably be wrong again.

Kick off returns are a non-issue. With most kicks going 7-9 yards deep,if not out of the end zone entirely. Teams are better off taking a knee. The risk of a fumble or a short return are not worth it.
