I think we can all can agree that this is absolutely fricking ridiculous. Come on poliboard unite on this one.

But when the social-media specialist for a private Provo-based English language learning center wrote a blog explaining homophones, he was let go for creating the perception that the school promoted a gay agenda.
Tim Torkildson says after he wrote the blog on the website of his employer, Nomen Global Language Center, his boss and Nomen owner Clarke Woodger, called him into his office and told him he was fired.

Having a hard time believing this is even for real.

I can support that this is pretty damn stupid.
I wonder what the boss meant when he said this was "the last straw" and that the fired teacher could not be trusted?

The boss and owner must be complete morons if true.

This teacher was already in trouble for previously using the term "black hole" in a science course.

It's absurd if true, but I'm not buying.

I don't know. Seems like there must be something more to this. Maybe the teacher had been doing legitimately offensive (to the school anyway) things and thought he was being cute with this.

From the original source it sounded like he was trying to be cute by explaining the "homo" part of the word. He was fired after 3 months on the job because the boss said that his blogs on the web site would often go on tangents which would be confusing and sometimes offensive. LINK

I believe it was the Salt lake City Tribune that the owner confirmed to that he didn't want his school being associated with homosexuality.

I'd imagine they're really opposed to a homophone marrying another homophone.
eta: I'm not against homophone marriage myself. Don't care as long as it's only hurting the English language and not me.
