Tips for sodding a yard

We are getting ready to sod our yard. We built last year and have been picking up nails and grading things out since. Where I live has some red clay but its not like other parts of the state. My plan is to spread some topsoil and put the sod over that. Any tips other than to get a buncha Mexicans to do it? Does anybody know of any deals on sod within an hour of McComb Ms? TIA

A good starter fertilizer (whatever the sod place recommends) is cheap and will help start the roots quickly. Apply before you lay the sod.

Make sure it is the ground is graded and flat before laying sod. You would think the grass would smooth the ground out, but it doesn't. Also roll the sod after laying...

is the best way to get it done.
If it was me, I'd start applying roundup and high concentrations of chlorides to make sure nothing ever grows there.

This, but also, make sure to bunch the peices very tight together, otherwise you'll have a bumpy lawn.

Till in a good layer of top soil into your existing soil and level it out. Install an irrigation system . Put down a good starter fertilizer. Lay out sod and make sure to roll it after it's placed. Water the hell out of it and stay off it for 2 weeks. If its in your budget pay some hombres to do the labor.

Water am and afternoon, not pm.

Thanks for the replies . I just need to find somewhere reasonable that will deliver . I have a 3/4 ton truck and a 22 ft trailer but that sod is close to 1k a pallet . I need about 10 so gonna try to get it delivered .
