Looking to set up a gun trust and stumbled upon a guy named Ryan Madden out of Ruston. Anyone use him, heard anything about him? Any other recommendations for a gun trust lawyer would be appreciated.

Jims Firearms has an attorney that does them for $300 I think. He is going to be at the store during tax free weekend according to a flyer I saw there.

There is a poster on here doing them and someone on Bayou Shooter that get real good reviews. You might need to bump tomorrow for better answers...

These are the two that I know have done a few (friends') trusts/LLCs and come pretty highly recommended.

I used Terrance knister for mine. Still waiting to get my form 4 approved (nothing out of the ordinary).

I used Terrance Knister for mine also. I have had no problems with multiple Form 1 and Form 4 items being approved. I would also recommend Joseph Cataldie in the Baton Rouge area. Both can be found on Bayoushooter under the user names of mouthpiece and JCcypress. You can't go wrong with either one.

Mark Garber in Lafayette did ours. He was recommended to us by Jim's. He did a good job.

Ballpark me a price on this, not including stamps

$200, $700, $2,000?

What are the advantages of the trust over an LLC? (other than annual LLC registration with the state)

If they are not in a trust, only you can have the guns. Others can shoot them if you are there, otherwise not. With the trust you can set others beneficiaries. Family, etc. now this would still need to be very responsible knowledgeable people. In addition, if you die without a trust the guns must go through a new round of background checks. Beneficiaries of the trust are now the owners.

Huge advantage if you are going the NFA route. Also no law enforcement sign off and not fingerprints...
