I heard that a month ago the UL equipment room was broken in to. All of their equipment including bats, gloves, sunglasses and the coaches conference rings were stolen. They had to buy all new equipment. So, the bats aren't that old.

Yes it is. People wrap them.in towels and beat them against a tree, hit them rubber mallets and also hit them with ball mallets. This loosens up the inside composite material and makes the bat more broken in and "hotter" probably adds anywhere from 20-50 feet on a fly ball.
