Morganton/Hickory NC Area

Might be relocating to the area, any of you OT guys know much about the area or ever been through there?

It's in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Actually pretty scenic. There probably isn't a lot to do in the immediate area, due to the towns being somewhat small, but you won't be too far from places like Charlotte, Asheville, Boone (for skiing), and maybe about 4 hours from Myrtle Beach.
I'd rank North Carolina overall as a good state to live in.

Look for a home on Lake Hickory.

My sister and her family live in that area. It is absolutely beautiful. Lots of great hiking options. There are a whole lot worse places to live.

Been to Hickory it is really nice especially lake hickory. If you're into nascar you can find dale Jarrett at the bars. You in the furniture business or something?

Wife grew up in Morganton. Nice little town. There's more going on in Hickory from a things to do standpoint, but you will likely find better deals on homes in Morganton. Only about 20 minutes apart. That area's actually pretty well situated - Asheville's about an hour or so west, Charlotte's less than two hours away, and Greensboro's less than 2 as well.

It's a good area, brah. I really enjoy NC and could see myself leaving here permanently if the chips fall right. I thought I would hate Raleigh, but I actually like it a lot. Just be sure to live ITP.

Either way, you should find most churches well-attended with congregations that do more than just show up once a week.
