You computer gurus, Virus Q ?

So Ive gota a box with the Crypto-Locker virus.
If I want to retrieve some Excel files, can I just boot to DOS, and go to the directory ?
And no Im not gonna try to remove the virus, I just want to retrieve the Excel files.

Not if it's been encrypted, which most likely it has.
Pay, pull from backup, or SOL.

Had someone get it and the whiles were encrypted. Luckily we had a good backup in place.
When files are encrypted, there are two keys involved, a private and public. The public is stored on the computer and the private is stored on the virus developer's server. It's impossible to decrypt without the other key, hence the $300 ransom.
I had a new person bring me their computer and it had been infected. No backup in place. He paid the $300 and we got the key to decrypt, even it it was infected again.
