Can Dee Ford play ILB?

I see a lot of mocks with us selecting Ford in the first and that's fine. My question though is can he play on the inside where we definitely need some more talent? On the outside we've got Junior Gallette, Victor Butler and Parys Haralson. So would we just spell Ford in and out or perhaps could we move him inside to where he can see the field more often?

It's questionable whether or not he can actually play OLB. He is a traditional 4-3 with a little extra speed who could MAYBE play 3-4 OLB.. He's better suited to a 4-3 though. I'd rather not see him in coverage (or on our team as another wasted 1st rnd pick)

Galette's a DE and Ford would be one too. Even if we did run a 3-4 (which we don't) he would be purely rush being that he's a DE coming out of college, and our real need at LB is someone who can cover as we have plenty of guys that can rush and play the run.

I like Ford. The way he progressed this year for AU was nice.
he made a lot of plays, even missing a few games. Makes you wonder what his final stat line could have been for 2013.
the injury history is a concern for me though. And the Saints have had injury issues at the LB position the last few years. I know that is kind of a weak copout but I'm not changing my mind.
if we pick him though, I won't be disappointed. He's a good pass rusher and you can never have enough of those.

I agree with the injury history. That's the only thing that scares me about his NFL potential.

Sullivan was a true bust.
at least Ellis did something his first few seasons. Just guessing based off his production, I think he started to lose interest in the game after 2010?
like I said, that's a guess
just can't figure any other way he could go from having a his best season as a pro to just becoming almost a complete non-factor.
you can't say it was a money thing. Dude had a chance to produce to keep his job alive and didn't do it.
did he even have a practice with the Bears? I know he signed with them but retired shortly afterwards.

After reading up on him more and watching some highlights, the first thing is he did not play coverage and his pick came off a tipped pass (and his deflections were pass rush tips) so he would be pure rush. He's played defensive end since high school so teaching him to cover would be starting from scratch. That's worse than I thought cause at his size I thought maybe he played some LB in high school but he didn't.
Second is I like his motor, he is fast as hell, and he reads where the QB is going very well and fights back to him.
The main concern I would have with him is can he be effective against pro level tackles. He won with speed almost exclusively and teams are smart enough to scheme around that. I also didn't see him anchoring the point against any runs.
He reminds me of a smaller Galette, which could be a good or bad thing depending on his development. It's a little worrisome because he has already gained so much weight (said he put on 50 lbs. in college and left at 240, and put on 12 more since) you have to wonder if adding more would diminish his speed advantage.
Honestly unless we go to more of a 3-4 he seems an iffy proposition for a 1st rounder.
