I started playing NBA2K14 and it got me into basketball mode.

a couple of questions,

1. What's keeping the pelicans from becoming a great team?
2. What are the expectations for the next 5 years?

SO....if it's only the coach....why don't we just fire him?

Injuries, the West is deep, coaching in that order.

To do whatever it takes to please Anthony Davis. Make the playoffs multiple times and contend for a championship at least one of those years.

These are the correct answers. To add to one, we need a legit starting C and maybe a SF.

We would definitely do better in the East, but we still couldn't compete in either Conference.

We have one player with superstar potential, but he's not there yet. We have a few pretty good players around him: Holliday, Anderson, Evans, and Gordon. 2 (Holiday and Anderson) are hurt and 1 (Evans) hasn't been used well all season. We have a scrub that started at SF most of the year (Aminu). We don't have a starter at C. We have no bench. And we have a coach that has no idea how to play our players.

The team will get better in it's current form if Monty learns which rotations are worthy of playing and as hurt players come back. We have an ability to get incrementally better through FA, but we don't have enough money (due to expensive contracts for Evans and Gordon) to make a true splash in FA without trading off one of the two.

Expectations for me are to grow as a young team and be a consistent playoff team. Unless something drastic happens I don't see us competing for a championship ever.

I'd honestly be on the fence with this at this point.

we are 15-10 against the east. that would put us as the 5th or 6th seed, maybe better. what about that makes you "on the fence"?

wtf? why would you be on the fence about us doing better in the east. every human that watches basketball would agree with this

We have no bench

I agree with your other points but not this

When healthy our bench is:

Roberts(with probably be pierre next season)
Rivers
Morrow
Ryno
One of Ajinca/Withey

That's not a bad bench by any means

There are teams in that conference (on top of the Heat and Pacers) that have been playing some good basketball

Bulls
Raptors
Wizards
Nets

I would not put complete trust in this team against those 4.

That is to go along with teams that the Pels have found a way to lose to like the Magic, Bobcats, etc.

yes because no other teams have lost to the likes of the magic and bobcats.

oh wait, that's right, the heat lost to the fricking 76ers and the jazz while the pacers lost to the two teams you mentioned.

Are the Heat and Pacers fighting for playoff spots?

Dude the East is playing at a historically bad level. We just now snuck into the playoff standings, but would have been a 3 seed in the East a full 2 or 3 weeks ago.
