In-laws may have access to some property there. I've heard shooting back there, but I've never personally known anyone to hunt the area.

I know of a club that hunts in the guste island area between madisonville and ponchatoula. Sounds like they are having a hard year, who isn't though.

Also I know of another club that hunts a big man-excavated lake/pond off a canal that runs off the tchefunte river.

Don't know of any near mandeville besides any private leases in big branch.

I guess its really only around Madisonville. But yeah its pretty much the area around Guste Island Road back to the river. Not really sure where exactly the property would be, but I know its in that area. My father in law said that its supposed to be duck and deer property. Didn't know if ducks hung around the edges of the lake much.

I know one of the cops in Madisonville. He told me last season he and another officer sat on the bridge on Lake Road and watched a few guys in an airboat spotlight and kill 6 deer. They pulled the airboat up to the landing by the road giving zero fricks with 6 tongues flopping in the breeze from the boat's fan.

Those fellas may have removed the entire herd that evening.

Ya man I've really only heard shotguns going off back there, but every year I've known of it, they are typically slaughtering the ducks, especially teal.

But entrance to the lease is past all of the different guste island subdivisions, they have like 5 or 6. But its well before you get to Port Louis.

All of it is private. What most of us refer to as "the rice fields". Of course not rice anymore just marsh. Hunting is very difficult numbers wise. THey haven't had a good season in about six years. It is close and convenient though. They kill a few woodies, a few teal, and a pile of Dos Gris. If you have access to land it's certainly worth exploring.

I belong to the rice fields lease near Guste Island. It's hit or miss, first flight kind of hunt, though some of the old timers who sit back there all day have success calling in big ducks late in the morning. Ton of pouldeau. Very convenient hunt.

We did growing up. Hunted from Guste Island to Lewisburg basically. We shot mallards in the marsh and wood ducks in that pond by Trinity Marine.

Deer hunting was good from the river to where the Sanctuary is now. Not sure how it is anymore because I haven't lived there in 10 years
