I book on tape'd Rising Tide. Good stuff.

My recs (if anyone is looking):

Rising Tide
Last Days of Last Island
Bienville's Dilemma (although reads a little like a text book)
Bayou Farewell
Patriotic Fire: Andrew Jackson and Jean Lafitte
Lee's Tigers: The Louisiana Infantry

While not a book, I recommend everyone get their hands on a copy of Roosevelt's hunting journal from his hunt with Holt Collier in MS. Good reading and some of it takes place in LA.

Not the journal, but good reading.

Just finished "Death in the Silent Places"...

REALLY REALLY recommend this book to the OB. It chronicles the greatest hunters from the late 1800s - early 1900s.

It touches on Col. Patterson, who for those of you that saw "Ghost in the Darkness", you're already up to speed on this dude.

Someone you may not have heard of is Sasha Siemel. This guy hunted jaguars in the Matto Grosso with a spear, which he preferred to a rifle due to the dense cover in the jungle. He liked to look them in the eye when he stabbed them with the spear...but then again, who doesnt?

But dont take my word for it, check it out for yourself.
