The actual dumb stunt will be a flash in the pan. The hosts already apologized to the family, who accepted the apology, and they got fired. That will be forgotten over the next few weeks.

What won't be forgotten is the awareness to ALS and I know for a fact there will be many more donations to the charities that fund research, many from Falcons fans who feel horrible that the stunt was done by a station in our town.

In all, justice was served, the family was given a chance to hear an apology and forgive the hosts and ALS research will benefit from the attention and the money that will be donated. All in all it is a good day.

They probably feel so fricking stupid. I'm not trying to say they are the worst people in the world but how do you actually think that was going to fly with the general public?

Listening to it made any decent human being feel uncomfortable.

I would love to ask just one of the hosts how they could possibly think any part of that segment would go over well. Horrible decision and I honestly have no sympathy for them after reading the transcript of it. Just awful

ETA: but I agree with you, this has probably brought so much traffic to gleasons page and the ALS battle.

Haven't listened to it, quite frankly don't want to, but you are right. There is no such thing as bad press.

I agree..I feel like it was a very classy move by the radio organization to cut these guys loose. I mean, people can talk sports without making fun of the mentally handicapped(my opinion)

It would be one thing if they said it while out on the street--it would be an a-hole thing to say, but saying it on the radio? Kinda digging your own grave there

But yes, i know Steve would just want this to be a chance for more people to hear about ALS instead of blindly hate falcons fans for something they had no part in---although, in all reality, i can't say it won't have teh Superdome and fans fired up in September

+1. If they want to talk shite about the Saints. Go ahead. Hell, if they want to talk shite about what Gleason did off the field, I think they'd be within their rights (albeit that would be sour grapes). But don't take the attack to off the field issues like ALS.

Fwiw Gleason isn't mentally handicapped at all. He's quite an aware and intelligent individual.

I mentioned this in the main thread yesterday. Gleason probably couldn't care less what was said I'm the bit. If anything he's probably glad it got so much attention bc he's going to use it as another opportunity to increase awareness. Blessing in disguise. Silver lining. However you want to say it

I started to listen to it, knowing what to expect but I had to turn it off half way through. It was just messed up

That's the part I don't understand. I have no reason to not think that by and large 9/10 these three guys are probably decent fellows. This segment didn't just happen on the spur of the moment. They had to have discussed it and then even rehearsed. I don't get how they all didn't just push back and say "whoa,we can't do this."

I agree with this to be honest. On a day where Gleason writes a great column on si.com, 3 idiots make fun of him, getting the column linked to every major news outlet on the internet.

I'm embarrassed to call Steak Shapiro an alumnus of my alma mater. I'm amazed that he, a man who claims to love NOLA as much as he does, went along with this, even bregrudgingly.

He's a piece of shite.

These guys are the epitome of the ex-fratstar who believes that they are above reproach. They feel entitled to say and do whatever they want to because they think they are invincible. They also think that anyone who questions them is "too sensitive" and that "the PC police" are out of control.

In short, they embody the attitude that permeates the OT and the Poliboard here.
