the SEC will be doing the same thing soon, I suppose we should believe they are on the verge of implosion as well
Tell me when was the last time a team left the SEC? What SEC teams have been rumored targets of other conferences in the last 2 years? What was the conference that first expanded to 12 and added a n CCG in FB and then to 14 again? Oh and FTR, thinking some teams would leave the ACC =/= thinking it will "implode".

The SEC and B1G are at 14, 16 is a number that makes more sense. The best options are in the ACC and clearly the ACC knows it. In my derpy opinion, UNC is/was the key. As long as they stayed, even if 4 or 5 others (VT, NCSU, FSU, CU, GT) left, the ACC would have remained viable. They could have added teams, UConn the most obvious and survived.

It made sense from the SEC side- it just never made any sense from the other side, IMO
that's a very reasonable position. VT makes more sense to leave since they have only been in the ACC for about 10 years, but it might not be able to make a move for political reasons. I'm not sure about NCSU as far as political ties holding them back but they have deeper ties to the ACC.

classic derp.
Lville and ND are two of the most stable athletic departments in the entire country, not plebian C-USA bottom feeders
speaking of classic derps.
L'ville has been very strong lately on the field. They have no shot at joining the SEC thanks to the KU, UF, USCe, UGA voting block. They would be an interesting fall back for the B1G but probably could not afford to wait it out and remain in the gutted BigEast. It was either ACC or BigXII for them
ND needs a conference for other sports and no one else would come close to accepting their ridiculous terms for "joining" the ACC.
If anything the ND agreement shows just how desperate the ACC was. This deal may ensure that now one leaves the ACC but if they themselves can't expand because other conferences have similar deals it will remain a step child FB conference.

-Lville athletic department is one of the best in the country, despite recent on-field success
-ND could have gone to Big12, ACC, or kept the Big East alive.
-ACC plan was to increase their viability as a football conference, which in turn will increase their tv revenus, this is why ND was added to the schedule. That is not desperation, that is smart strategic planning.

Winning cures all. And the ACC has a very nice region for stability and growth opportunities. I think reasonable people would say the long term viability of the ACC is atleast better than the BIG12.

que? doesn't the recent on field success demonstrate this? Also that is not really relevant since they have no chance to join the SEC (and lets not act like that wouldn't be their first choice) would not be the B1G's first choice if the B1G considered them at all. so that basically leaves them with 2 options, ACC or BigXII.

The Big 12 is possible, but i doubt it would have accept the same terms the ACC did. As for keeping the Big East alive, I guess they could have remained with the "Catholic Seven" that don't play D1 FB but unlike the ACC ND gets a lot from the deal.

I'm sure that's what the ACC people told themselves. ND was already playing 3-4 ACC teams a year recently anyway (counting Pitt). Adding 2-3 ND games will not help their TV Revenue. ND is not sharing the NBC money for ACC games or BCS/Playoff revenue and they can get preference for ACC bowl ties over ACC teams with the same or 1 game better records. With out expanding ACC TV revenue will not increase, even if FSU and or Miami become relevant powers again.

winning more in football may help the ACC's perception among fans and TV people, but it won't really translate into more TV revenue. Deals should grow over time, but will regardless of on field FB success. It's expansion that increases the TV money, that's why the SEC and B1G have expanded.
I agree it's a good stable, growing area, hence the interest from the B1G and SEC. Would have made sense for the ACC to explore the superconfernce idea and try to add someone like Texas. That would help their TV revenue more than having ND as a quasi member.

I grew up in a unc family mom, uncle cousin went there. I don't want the confrence to fail but don't like how they whored themselves out to ND and basically ended up being the BE 2.0
