However, to suggest I'm completely close-minded when all I've done is be honest, is inaccurate.

then i apologize.

I don't know...I have been a life-long trekker...(back to the original series) and thought JJ did the best job you could do given the volume of back story you had to reintroduce to a new generation.

Frankly, I think Star Wars is a far easier universe to tell stories in then Star Trek. You can literally go in any direction (KOTOR for example) and find some great stories. Star Trek is very very limited.

And I thought you were in my other thread - I was very clear that I completely understand that I'm in the minority on this. However, I cannot understand your position - the people that never watched TOS, I get it - it was lens flarey and modern and full of well-shot, but incomprehensible action scenes - I get that. However, for actual TOS fans (and my house is full of them) who also like the movie? Completely baffle me.

He captured the spirit of the original series...sure TOS was high minded with it's storytelling. But at the end of the day it was about Jim Kirk kicking someone's arse and sleeping with the hot alien chick usually after he ripped his shirt. The new movie captured the adventure of the original series almost perfectly.

My wife, who also came up on the TOS, isn't as big of a fan of the new movie...her comment is usually that it was a nice story but there is only one jim kirk.

That wasn't what the show was about at all. Kirk hardly got laid anyway.

When a reboot focuses on all of the superficial characteristics of the source material, and retains none of the humanity, intelligence and substance, then all you have is a satire of a parody.

In Star Wars's case, though, how much harm can be done?

Oh wait - I just thought of something - he could completely ruin Han Solo and the Falcon! That will probably be the focus...

Doesn't matter. The chances of me watching any new Star Wars or Star Trek films are very, very low until there is a change of creative team and direction.
