Star Trek had the disadvantage of being 1 movie and having to explain and give a background for a huge cast of characters that most of the viewers didnt know about.

I am not worried about JJ because at the very least they will be better than 1-3.

I think I have established bona fides that I am most definitely NOT an Abrams fanboy.

There is little he can do to damage the franchise that the Lucasfilm team didn't do with The Cartoon Menace, Send in the Clones, and Revenge of the Whiny-arse Punk Who they Put in the Role of Vader but who is Most Definitely Not Darth Vader. Those films are beyond terrible.

I think JJ was the only logical choice, other than Spielberg, and he'd never do it.

It you're against JJ, then name a better choice.

frick mythos

I want to be entertained and not cringe.

The further I get from the prequels the worse they get.

uh no.

JJ's McCoy was channeling DeForest Kelly.

There is little chance the new movie will be "more to" my "liking". I don't like anything Abrams has ever done, ever...ever.

Which is why you didnt give Star Trek a chance and you won't give the sequel or anything Star Wars JJ makes a chance.

There was so much right with JJ's Trek it was scary (and yes there was some stupid shite in it too).

Like I said in that other thread. Fans killed off Trek on tv...the constant whining and bitching.

That's where you're wrong - I did give it a chance and I'm tired of being, by implication, called a liar. The trailers were intriguing, Spock looked right, and many people raved. I went into excruciating detail what I thought of the film - far beyond "JJ Abrams - didn't watch".

Also, I'm FAR more likely to watch a new Star Wars film from Abrams than I would have if Lucas/Spielberg did it. Ditto for Indiana Jones. I'm not committing to watching anything - I had to really talk myself into Avengers - Whedon directing it was the deciding factor.

However, to suggest I'm completely close-minded when all I've done is be honest, is inaccurate.

Any word on where JJ will take the saga moving forward, i.e. plot line and new villain?

I would hope they go backwards in the time line instead of forward. They ended the saga pretty well with balance being restored and all. Personally, I would like to see how Yoda became so powerful and maybe the rise of Darth Sidious. I hope they don't make it too kiddie like most Disney movies. Should be good no matter what, I don't think Disney invests that much money without a good plan for the series, no matter who they get to direct it.

I have no problem with JJ directing. My problem will probably be with writing. I'm a big fan of the novels. I've read about 40+. And I think there is almost no chance of them giving any shits about the canon of the books. I'm worried they'll just completely frick up the established canon. And that sucks for people like me.

(Might as well have directed the 2009 so-called Star Trek film.)

This is funny to me.

No offense but you're coming off as a huge movie snob to me.

What's snobbish about being dissatisfied with Hollywood's product? They buy the X-Men - obviously that want to appeal to fans of the comics (of which I am one - and not a hardcore one, either, I read them in middle school/high school) - they f*cked it up. Spiderman? They f*cked it up. Batman? It was hit or miss until Nolan took over, and I like Tim Burton.

What is so snobbish about being a little apprehensive about them possibly f*cking up The Avengers?

I'm a "snob" because I won't choke down just any piece of $hit Hollywood sends to the multiplex and say, "Oooh! I want seconds of that!"?
