SW M&P40c Question

Hey there, new to posting, been lurking for quite some time. The OB board is where its at for me. I recently purchased an MP40c for a carry gun, but Im having trouble figuring out the shot profile. What I mean is at what range does this gun shoot "flat?" With the front and rear sight lined up and front sight in the center of the target itseems to shoot low. Do you have to completely cover the target with the front sight? If so this makes it hard to see what your actually aiming at. I find that its not POA=POI. I have put about a hundred rounds through it, may just take some more practice, esp getting used to that trigger. Any insight would be helpful, definitly not as easy shooting as my 1911

I have to admit I have not fired any of the M&P models. I do have to aim a little "higher" with a Glock than I do for a Sig. I shoot Sigs best of all, and Glock not so well. It has gotten better as I've gotten more used to the trigger. (I'm leaning towards trying the new Sig P250, modular pistol).
Anyway, as to your specific question - with pistol sights I normally start with the front sight covering the point I want the bullet to strike and adjust from there. Even doing that Glocks shoot a little low for me. Sigs are spot on.

In my experience the m&p tends to shoot low. So covering the target wouldn't be a bad idea. Once you get a good feel for the weapon, you'll understand what you have to do.

Can control - left and right (if you use the sights correctly)
Can't control - up and down (even if you use the sights correctly)
Figure out where it's hitting vertically and make sure you aren't the one jerking the barrel down. An easy way is using this test:
1. Have a person come out to the shooting lane with you.
2. Have them load your magazine.
3. Have them hide an empty/dummy round in your magazine.
4. Shoot your whole magazine at the target.
You'll notice that once you get to that empty/dummy round you may have a bad flinch. This should get you back to dry firing practice to get rid of it.
I strongly suggest a lot of dry fire practice for any new handgun. All of them have a little bit of a different feel.

I even do it with guns I feel I'm proficient with.

I would say with the number of rounds I've put down range with each gun, I've probably dry fired about 50%-60% as many times.

It just helps me know that I have a crisp trigger pull and not flinching.

Yea Ive read dry firing practice does help, as well as the snap cap theory, just gotta keep shooting and get the up and down figured out. I definitly enjoy the ergos of the gun, just not used to the trigger. Will probably get the apex trigger kit sometime in the near future, heard it helps with the gritty feel.

The apex trigger is a great mod for these guns. I carry the M&P 9c and I have the duty/Cary kit along with the ram kit. Ill soon have the aluminum blade they recently came out with as the reviews look promising. I have always shot well with mine and point if impact was point of aim so I'm not sure how to resolve that problem if it is indeed the gun. Very well could be user error especially if you are new to that trigger of handguns in general. I'd make sure your stance is correct as well.
