This is not the a-hole part. The a-hole part is not paying you out the two weeks. I have seen people leave from one public accounting firm and go to another firm. They are absolutely direct competitors. They made him turn his stuff in that day. He was paid for his two weeks.

You have obviously lived in a very sheltered world.
Or I am not an unprofessional child that can't handle his business.

Difference of opinion and different industries I guess.

I'm not sure what this statement is getting at.
Yes, the people that work at a public accounting firm absolutely go out and get business. They can take business away from one of the firms and bring it to their new firm because that client likes the individual, not necessarily the firm.

Different industries I guess. Being in public accounting, that is something that would not happen. Maybe they are just too concerned with their image and the potential backlash if they were to do it.
How long have you been in public accounting because it most definitely happens there especially with higher positions? Do you really want someone trying to steal your clients to their new firm for two weeks?

I am no longer in it. My wife - 5 years.

She had a senior manager leave when she was in her second year. He was asked to leave immediately. He was paid out his 2 weeks. She had a manager leave. He was asked to leave. He was paid his 2 weeks.

Again, I said they have asked those individuals to leave, but they still paid them the two weeks out. I don't know what else you want me to say, but that is what happened. They were paid the two weeks and their PTO balances.

In a sales position they almost always accept your resignation and make it effective immediately. I've checked with my buddy who is a legal guy for a company. They do not have to honor the two weeks and like I said 99% of the time in my business they don't. That's my point. I know the day I give my notice WILL be my last day at my job. Why not wait another week and get more pay out of it?

It doesn't always happen that way, they paid them because they wanted to and not because they had to
PTO is a different ball game
PTO is a different ball game

just for reference my company will cut you if you are leaving for a direct competitor the moment they find out, whether it's through the grape vine, or your honerable two week notice. another company and we honor the two week notice. just can't be a competitor.
That being said, if you turn in your two week notice they will cut you right away, but managers are instructed to give positive feedback if used as a reference.
I couldn't imagine being allowed to continue working here if they know I'm already contracted to a direct competitor, thats the kicker.
