Would be fine with a Hicks/Bunkley/Jordan front, but I think Hicks is best suited for NT. Hicks playing End, which in a 3-4 is more like a tackle, would work as well.

Obviously, if they feel Hicks is better suited for NT, then LDE becomes a need.

If Bunkley plays NT, then Hicks will play LDE, I don't think there's even a question there.

Fletcher Mackel has it right for once.

Trade up for Star Lotulelei. Would be a total game changer in the Haloti Ngata mold.

Please for the love of the draft DO NOT TRADE UP AGAIN. We keep giving away picsk to trade up (Sed Ellis, Mark Ingram, AL FREAKING WOODS and, years ago, Jonathan Sullivan). How has that worked for us?

Ellis and Ingram are solid, but certainly not worth giving up draft picks for.

I say roll the dice with Bunkley/Hicks and get a playmaker at OLB. JMO

I forgot about Bunkley, and I am actually now more confident in our DL with him at NT. Hicks is a great fit at DE though. Remember, DE's need the size too, because, as you stated, they are more of the DT role for a 4-3. If Bunkley can bulk back up, then this may be a very good fit.

That brings me to thinking ILB, CB and SS are our biggest needs. I really like Juniah and Tez as OLB's, though i wouldn't be against drafting another this year. PITT always drafts OLB's in their drafts and continues to groom them for eventual starters. None of their OLB's were first round picks. Woodley was second, and that was uncharacteristically high for their drafting strategy. Though the landscape has changed with the large number of 3-4 teams in the league now, so maybe it is required to draft them higher as opposed to years past

I like Tez here, and if ever a chance for him to show promise and potential it is OLB in a 3-4. He has all the makings of a good one. I do not see Galette as a OLB though, at least not to where I'd be confident with it.

Tyrunn Walker could be an option at end too. He's close to 300 lbs.

Hawthorne and Lofton should be more than fine at ILB.

OLB imo.

Jordan on the end, Bunkley in the middle, Hicks on the other end. Line is rockin'.

For LBs, we have Lofton in the middle.. that's it. I'm not sure how big Hawthorne is, maybe he could be our second ILB? On the outside, people are going on about Junior and Tez, but I just don't think they're ready to be full-time starters. We need one or two more badasses who we can rotate with Tez and Jr. I think we should take an OLB player in the first, and then go for depth at NT/DE/LB in the rest of the draft. We also have a need at OT, but we really should only try to snag one if it's a steal.. D is pretty needy.

Isn't this contradictory? Nothing from the draft will be a known entity in the NFL game. They all have their issues.

I'm down with that. I say Mingo (doubt he's available, but you never know), Dion Jordan, and Ogletree should be our targets at 15.

dude has developed into a very good pass rusher. the OLB's in a 3-4 are primarily pass rushers with their pass coverage assignments being more about taking away throwing lanes than man coverage. I see him thriving in this type of system, and I am confident if he's our guy. I would have no issue with drafting a guy in the first and using Juniah as speller though.

Lofton yes. Hawthorne? I don't really know. I haven't seen anything from him to say he's worthy starting for us in either a 3-4 or 4-3. The ILB is in 3-4 is similar to a SLB in a 4-3 in that it's more about taking on and shedding blocks to manage the run game, and Hawthorne himself has said he didn't feel right in the SLB this last season. LINK

quote:

"It's usually a certain body type, a bigger, longer taller kinda guy," the 6-foot, 246-pound Hawthorne said of the prototypical strong-side linebacker. "It's a different style of play. It's a different vantage point, you just see the game from a different angle and that takes some getting used to. You play blocks differently. You are on the line of scrimmage so everything happens a little quicker. It just takes some learning and adjusting."

Maybe he can play the coverage/speed role in the 3-4, but I see Lofton being that guy. We need the big plugger at ILB, and I don't see him on this squad. Hawthorne's stats, in limited play, were not very impressive at the position. Also, this little nugget leads me to believe he won't even be with the team this coming year.

quote:

the front office could decide to re-evaluate Hawthorne's contract. He is due a $3 million roster bonus this offseason and his cap number for next season is $4.7 million in 2013.

There is not a player on the Saints roster today that I can see is 'our guy' to be OLB's or nose tackle.
All young with potential maybe but no NFL experiance as I can tell from the couch.
