Did anybody else get a Beta free trial invite for RedBox Instant? Same principal as netflix except you get streaming plus 4 free rental at the box each month for $8. I just got my code for the free trial so I'll start playing with it tonight and this weekend. Hopefully they have a good selection.

Do they have an app for Roku, PS3, iphone, or Android? I don't see anything on their site about it.

Interesting, but I would be surprised if they had a better streaming selection that netflix.

the chances of their selection being better than netflix are next to none. pointless attempt is pointless.

From their difficult to find site (not sarcasm, had to go through their old tweets to find the link)

quote:

With an Internet connection you can stream movies on most Windows or Mac computers, iPhone or Android phones, and iPads or Android Tablets. Coming soon are Internet-connected Samsung TVs, Blu-ray Disc players and home theater systems. And we'll be adding more devices.

Thanks. Yeah, couldn't find that info. I just signed up for a beta invite, but I might hold off until they come out with a PS3 or Roku app so I can watch it on my tv. Maybe by the time those apps become available there will be a decent consensus on the service whether it's good or not.

I haven't even used my streaming netflix in about 2 months, but I have rented several movies from RedBox, so it makes sense for me. I might just cancel netflix for a couple of months and trying RedBox Instant.

I wonder if any companies signed exclusive contracts with Netflix or if they have the rights to offer the same titles to RedBox as well. I'll try to keep this thread updated as I play around with RedBox.

I don't really use Netflix much anymore either, but my girlfriend watches it all the time. Netflix seems to have a high number of spectacularly terrible female-type shows.

Netflix selection hasn't been the best but they really have the most polished instant streaming application. Have you tried using amazon prime instant or hulu (on xbox)? Netflix is WAY less buggy and more organized.

Hopefully redbox can offer something that Netflix can't. Redbox already has the infrastructure for physical DVD's at a much lower cost than it was for Netflix to do it by mail. Although they may not have the vast library of Netflix, this may be a win.

actually think netflix has gotten better with them adding The West Wing. The movie selection still blows hard, but that has a lot to do with licensing

My first review:

Terrible selection and streaming HD quality was terrible. I tried watching Thor and it was obviously not HD and still skipped throughout the 15 mins I let it play. I didn't see any good TV shows to watch and their search feature was as bad as netflix.

Definitely going to stick with netflix for the mean time.

Disappointing, but kind of what I expected. There's only so much content that can stream due to studios signing exclusive deals with different service providers.

hopefully, they get the negative things out of the way with the "beta" version..how long do they normally have a "beta"version out before pushing the real deal?? i was hoping with the 4 extra dvd rentals to go along with the streaming it would be a little better but wasn't expecting it to be..figured it would be like netflix when i saw that you can get 4 dvds a month where you can only get certain movies on dvd and not stream which i dont understand why they do this??
