This guy knew.

I knew too... but it's 1 of those where it's so rare at first you're like "what?" then after a second you're like "oh yeah"

This of course the rarest way to score and you see it about once a decade.

Believe it or not, it is possible to get a 1 point saftey the other way as well, but's never once happened in the history of football.

It would involve the offense team on the conversion somehow getting tackled in their own endzone 97 yards behind them.

Hypothetically it could happen if they turned it over and the defense returned it down near the goal line, where the offense forced a turnover back, and then after gaining possession and going into their own endzone.

Basically the conversion try scoring is prety simple and consistent for both teams.

Get it through the uprights = 1 point
Get it into the opponent's endzone = 2 point
Have possession in the field of play and get tackled in your own endzone = 1 point saftey for the other team

I was at the game and the guy next to me immediately said it when it happened. I knew of the rule, but wouldn't have thought about it if he hasn't said it.

The rule is basically this: on an extra point attempt, a score that during regulation play would otherwise be ruled a touchdown is worth two points, and a score that would otherwise be ruled a field goal or a safety is worth one point.

I think it's interesting that the ref, when making the announcement to the crowd, said that it was an unusual rule.

I am pretty sure this is the same guy that was the ref last night. They did say it was an ACC crew. This is a clip of him and its pretty damn funny.

This is the easiest way to explain and understand it.
