Mett should be the one apoligizing for missing a wide open 5 yard route.

No, Les should apologize for sitting on a lead again. By the time we decided to start moving the ball, it was too damn late.
The toss play deep in our backfield against a 9 man front lost the game. Not Mett.
The fact that it came down to mett and the last drive is testimony of our offensive coaching. This was Clemsons defense. Clemson!

You'll get no arugement from on that point, but if Mett makes a easy throw the game is over.

Holy crap.
Anyone who watches college football should have known Boyd was as good a QB as LSU faced this year.

If we had one offensive mind worth a frick, it wouldn't have mattered if Boyd was Andrew Luck.

True...but:
Mett never found a rhythm the entire game. He was under pressure the whole night, sacked 6 times, knocked down several more. He passed for 120 yards in the game.
Hill ran for 125 yards in the game but only got 12 carries. He was averaging 11 yards every time he got the ball.
Clemson had all their time outs. We needed to kill clock. There were just over 2 minutes remaining in the game.
This is not rocket science so my question is:
Why do Les and Stud call 3 pass plays in a row?

I wish Minter comes back. I love this guy, all heart and soul.

Playing devil's advocate here: I can see why they didn't run. Third and short was getting stuff ALL GAME LONG. Whether it was Hill, Ware, or Ford our line was getting killed when they knew a run was coming.
If you saw the formations Clemson was in on our last drive, you could tell a short pass was the smart thing to do.
Biggest problem on that last drive was execution. Mett missed a wide open pass and the WRs never got separation on another one.

everytime im ready to be over last night i see another stat that just is unbelievable. 12 for 125 and miles doesn't run him on the last series and doesn't give him more than 12 carries. it has to be some kind of fricking joke

There is a little myth regarding the wide open missed pass by Mett. It was wide open and he needed to make that play no doubt. But that is not an easy pass. That is an NFL pass. That was a long pass that Mett had to make on the run.

Don't buy too much into those stats. Three big runs from Hill, but was getting stuffed on third and short.
Please don't take that as a knock on Hill. Kid was on fire but you can only do so much with 8+ in the box.

which is stupid to call passes that require mett to be on the run because he has showed time and time again that he can't do that this year.
he has been terrible on roll out passes

Play action with your momentum swaying is tough on any level. But you have to at least give your wide open receiver a chance. That throw was way off.

That young man played his arse off. His offensive team mates should be apologizing to him.

Seriously. Anyone who has seen Mettenberger throw on the this year KNOWS that he is much much less accurate, and yet they keep calling designed roll-outs. It doesn't play to the strengths at all.
If you're worried about getting stuffed up the middle then run to the edge (and do it with Hill instead of Ford, so everyone doesn't see it coming).
But really, even if you get stuffed twice in a row running there is STILL the best call because it forces Clemson use timeouts that they ended up needing at the end of the game. With no timeouts they don't get to stop the clock after Boyd gets sacked on their last drive and they likely have to spike the ball or rush a play and converting on 4th and 16 probably doesn't happen.

Side note, who is liking all of the posts in this thread?

les and stud hate calling plays to a players strength. we run routes that we dont have the wrs to run them with and we call passes that our qb can't make.
