This was good, back in its day.

See Josey's post (on page 1) for two best choices.

Start with the best ammo, and then run at least a full box (preferably two boxes)through your gun to ensure that it feeds reliably.

No two 1911's can be expected to function identically -- and some just never function reliably.

It is no coincidence that most LE agencies issue M&P's, Glocks, Sigs or HK's, and that very few issue (or approve) 1911's. ?

If yours is reliable, and you shoot it well, by all means hang onto it.

try a few different brands and see which ones work. Some work better than others in certain guns. For example, my XD has problems feeding Ranger T's, but it loves Gold Dots.

Anyone shoot the hornady critcal defense?

I don't like shooting light-for-caliber 45 rounds. They only offer them in 185gr variety in 45ACP. For a small pistol, maybe so, but not a 1911.

I like these:

Speer Gold Dot (200gr +P)
Federal Hydrashok (still a VERY capable round; have it in my home defense .40S&W)
Hornady XTP
Winchester Ranger T
Winchester PDX1 (essentially the same as the Ranger)
Remington Golden Saber (bonded)
Federal HST

I'd really love to see Hornady develop a Critical Duty for 45. They have a +p 9mm version in Critical Duty and it's awesome. 135gr +p power...

It's also got something to do with the inadequacies and lack of training in the police forces, but I won't argue. Thanks for your advice, I fully intend to do that before I carry mine. Got the card in the mail today

I've still got a case of true nuff .45 Black Talons. If I nick you, you'll hold still.

Shooting a S&W 4506.

A .45 is a giant hunk of lead, hollow point or not.
