Will be a big uproar is the demographics of those two positions change.

Happening at Rayville High right now. I knew from the moment they announced Lent Bursey as head coach, that it was not only the wrong hire, but it was a terrible hire. From what I have heard, there are no intentions to get rid of him anytime soon.

John Curtis is dominant, but most of the rest of Jefferson Parish is awful (save Rummel)

Jefferson Parish has 3 major private schools, Curtis, Rummel, and Shaw. Curtis is obviously the best of that group and arguable the best in the state. Rummel is the top 5A team, and Shaw is having some down years and will continue to struggle the next two years in 5A but has more state championship appearances in the past 25 years than some schools have playoff appearances. Jefferson Parish is also the feeder for the majority of the solid Nola programs. You think the kids from BM, Jes, Karr (yes Karr fudges addresses and takes JP kids), St. Aug, and HC get their athletes from Orleans? No, they give scholarships to JP kids.

I've always been very concerned about what would happen to the enthusiasm of the northside(white) Neville community if they were to get a black head football coach and black principal........and how more white flight from the school would change the northside. I've got to give to the Neville alumni and business community for supporting the school and football program to prevent it from going the way Wossman went thus far.

Both of Neville's #2 and #3 administrators are black and nobody would have a problem with either one of them being principal. Both have been at the school 25-30 years. The #3, Coach Rankins, has been there since the early 70's and was the first black teacher at Neville. Those 2 are the disciplinarian's and are a huge reason the school is run so well.

This whole white-flight BS has had little to zero effect on Neville at all. When I was in school 15 years ago the demographics were about 70-30 black to white. Since then our enrollment has increased and the demographics have trended toward an equal split. It will continue that way once Neville goes Charter and is out of the hands of the MCSB. The MCSB and their BS is what's keeping alot of parents from sending their kids to Neville.

I too wonder what would happen if WM were to hire a black principal or HC but I don't think I have to worry about that happening anytime soon. Heads would roll.

I've heard multiple stories as to what happened. The most believable one for me was the one that involved the backup QB and his father, who was also an assistant coach...and then on top of that, throw in the mom and it was a cluster of bad intentions gone wrong.

Mom and Dad thought their boy should have been playing more than he was. Mom raises some eyebrows by saying, "if her boy didn't get more playing time, then wouldn't none of them be playing". She then proceeded to bring up the question about a players eligibility for Fall sports, due to grades from summer school not being filed properly, or something of that nature.

Everything blows up in their face and Rayville is told they can't participate in the playoffs, assistant coach and his son leave Rayville and enroll in Neville, if I'm not mistaken. Bo steps down and goes to Caldwell...Rayville has regressed years because of it.

The kid in question was the starter and got benched. Like any good southern mama I guess she didn't take too kindly to it.

It is North and not even close. Take away John Curtis and what team from the south wins championships on a regular basis. Heck, just last year 3 teams from 1 North La parish won state.

Jefferson Parish has 430,000 people, roughly double north Louisiana. And let's face it: You talk about New Orleans schools that get kids from JP. Well, you better believe Curtis, Rummel, etc. try to get players from New Orleans. Remember that school bus you saw crushed by the barge during the levy breech in Katrina? That was a John Curtis bus used to bus kids from the ninth ward to Curtis. One of those kids, Bush, went to Michigan State and told me the whole story of the bus being crushed.

So really, the JP private schools are drawing from a metro of close to 1.1 million, probably realistically a little less because it's probably a tough sell to get kids from the north shore to c'mon down to Curtis.

So you have five times the population of Northeast Louisiana. You have one, super dominant program playing in 2A that's drawing more than its fair share of top players from the Metro area. The Catholic League teams haven't won a state title since Shaw in 1987. That's 25 years.

Monroe football>Jefferson Parish football. AND IT'S NOTE EVEN CLOSE.

And I ain't even from Monroe. I've just watched this stuff for a long time. Monroe's played the best football in Louisiana for years and nobody else is even close. I thought the river parishes might have caught them back when Hahnville and Destrehan had their run, but those programs have slipped back into the pack.

Why is Cen La football not any good? Is it just North vs. South?

That's nothing more than your opinion and I certainly don't agree with it.

Which is all you have provided with no basis in fact. I love it when ignorant fricking WM alums give their OPINION about the "Northside". So off-base its not even funny.

quote:

Doesn't mean anything.

It means he's well respected by everyone and everyone loves him. It'll be a sad day when Rankdawg retires. He would've been principal a long time ago if he had the academic qualifications.

quote:

We'll see how things go if Neville ever gets both a black principal and black football coach.

Well since the principal and the football coach are both highly successful and relatively young that's not going to happen for a while.

quote:

The black student population probably has a lot more to do with it

Typical quote and opinion from a rebel. The white student population is growing even as the city is getting smaller. Kids are leaving St Freds and other private schools and coming to Neville.

quote:

Bad comparison considering WM is not a part of MCSS and doesn't have as large a black population

I wonder why that is. Are you saying that because WM is majority white that a black principal or football coach shouldn't be hired? You have a black basketball coach so why can't you have the other 2 as well?

The Neville Alumni and northside have done a good job of supporting the school and program to keep it from being 90-10 black/white.

Which isn't changing any time soon.

What you just stated in this quote above is factually incorrect. That's not surprising coming from you, though.

SICK BURN!! Thank God your not from West Monroe. Doesn't make you less ignorant.

As long as he doesn't piss off white folk, he's cool. That's what that means.

more ignorance

But when the day comes for them to retire, and a campaign ever mounts to replace both of them with blacks, we'll see how the enthusiasm of the northside is.

Well since the school will be run by NAFA by then they'll hire the most qualified person for the job.
