I think LDWF is going to want to see the bill of sale, they are going to hit you on taxes...

Wick posted a link I'll not read, but perhaps you should. I've never bought a used boat so I don't know first hand.
A friend did as recently as 3 months ago and only had to pay taxes on the "licensed" trailer or so he said.
As for the 4K, I'd tell them the trailer was worth 500$ or less for sure.

You only pay taxes on the value of the trailer. You will pay them when you go to the DMV to get registration. When you buy the boat, you and the guy selling agree on the value of just trailer and put that on the bill of sale then you will pay your parish percentage tax on that value.

I have bought all my boats second hand from out of state and in state. Make sure you make two bills of sale. One for the trailor and one for the boat and everything else. The bill of sale for the trailor will need to have the make, model, year, vin # and price for trailor only. You have to pay taxes on the trailor when you regester it.

The second bill of sale will be for the boat, motor, and accessories for the rest of the sales price.

I'm also going register a used boat tomorrow. Do I have to go to both the DMV and wildlife?

I think I already paid tax on trailer at the bank.

DMV for trailer, W&F for boat.

To the OP, I just bought a boat/motor for $8250 and trailer for $250 and no one at DMV questioned it for taxes.
