starting either the wire or breaking bad

Any advice on which to start first? I have read they are both great.

Breaking Bad does seem to be the new The Wire in terms of fanboy hype.

Both outstanding. If you can get through season 1-4 of breaking bad before July 15th then do it first, new season starts then.
But if I had to choose the Wire is probably the top one.

Breaking Bad is easier to get into and is still a current show, so I'd go with that first. I do think the Wire is a better show overall.

I have only seen the first season of the wire but I thought it was a great show. And I think as each season progresses to the next, a different aspect of the corruption and government is shown.

That would be my exact reason to not start Breaking Bad. I hate having to wait a week in between episodes.
I would start The Wire and tivo the new season of Breaking Bad and then watch it after I finished The Wire.
