For those of you that don't like the Beatles....have you listened to a lot of their stuff from different periods? The reason I ask is because a lot of people hear stuff like "I want to hold your hand" and "she loves you" and then quit listening to them. Some don't listen to their psychedelic stuff or the later music when imo they were at their best.

great point
when i'm jamming the deep tracks channel on sirius/xm and a kickass song comes on, i'm like cool who's that..
then look down to see it's the beatles

never knew how really deep they'd gone from 'I wanna hold your hand' until hearing a lot of their other stuff

Of course many people of my generation like/love the beatles

Earlier in the thread you posted:

What I like is when older guys like you, legitimately get angry because a younger generation doesn't "get" the Beatles

BTW are you going to troll every single Beatles thread? I'm asking not because I care about the Beatles but I want to know precisely how much trolling is allowed here, for when I start hijacking every rap thread.

It's crazy to see how much they developed. Early on when they were young, they did the rock and roll thing and sang all those songs that could get them any girl they wanted. Then, they slowed it down a bit and focused heavily on writing and experimenting with different instruments/sounds. After that they got "weird" and switched to a psychedelic era and started the facial hair trend. Finally, in the last year and a half when they were at a boiling point with each other, they put out some amazing stuff that ranged from pop to hard rock to whatever.

That's one of the many reasons I can listen to them every single day for hours. There's an album or two and several songs that can fit any mood I'm in.

Not at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinion ... It's ok with me that you like the beatles. I'd be lying if it wasn't amusing how mad people, like you, get though.

By the way, my favorite band is the foo fighters ... i also like Van Morrison and Stevie Ray Vaughn. You're more than welcome to not like any of them.

Oh, and my bad for overgeneralizing my generation .... maybe I should say next time "some of my generation" because that's what i intended.

I'm not mad at all. In many ways I almost empathize -- since I myself can't listen to Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Rush or any other purveyors of pompously bombastic screeching and often get flamed for it. Let's not even mention (c)rap.

I'm just curious about how much trolling will be allowed here. I knew even before the board started that knocking Beatles posts on here will be the equivalent of dissing Citizen Kane posts on the movie board. Some people will not be able to let "The Champ" walk by without booing. My question is: is it just allowed for the Beatles or are pointless trolls permitted with other artists and genres as well?

I hear ya. I'm honestly not trolling.

I'd admit it if I was ... but i truly dislike the beatles. I like many bands from that era and after, but not the beatles. Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd ... into the 80s with AC/DC, Def Lep, The Clash and The Cure .... and the 90s grunge movement.

But the beatles just aren't for me.

Do you recognize their greatness, or dismiss them as a bubble gum group for teenage girls

While they did have legions of screaming girls chasing them, they weren't anywhere close to the bubble gum pop of the time. Between the time Buddy Holly died and the Beatles, they had stuff like Bobby Vinton (Venus). The early Beatles stuff was a departure from that type of stuff. Its hard today to realize that because music as evolved and splintered into some many sub genres.

Absolutely awful, middle of the road, lowest common denominator white kid "rock".

Led Zeppelin

First three albums were good . . . took traditional blues and souped it up and turned it into something else. Purists hated it, and I understand why. But I enjoyed the first three albums. After that, they almost became a parody of themselves.
