I posted this in the As the Nuts Crack thread, but wanted to get it more out there to the board.

Docs: OSU President Knew Of Faulty Compliance

One month before a United States Department of Justice letter to Ohio State uncovered a massive pattern of NCAA rule violations within the school’s football program, official Ohio State internal audit documents show Ohio State President Gordon Gee and OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith knew that the Ohio State compliance department - led by former NCAA enforcement official Doug Archie - had failed to properly monitor dozens of OSU student-athletes for potential violations of NCAA rules.
quote:
During our audit, we analyzed Student Athlete Vehicle Registration information for 152 student athletes, and we physically observed vehicles driven by football players upon arrival at spring practice.
We noted the following issues:
19 student athletes purchased parking permits from University Transportation and Parking for vehicles they had not registered with the Department of Athletics.
22 student athletes received parking citations from University Transportation and Parking for vehicles they had not registered with the Department of Athletics.
3 football players were observed driving vehicles they had not registered with the Department of Athletics.
Recommendation: We recommend that the Department of Athletics investigate the aforementioned discrepancies and confirm that no NCAA regulations were violated. The Department of Athletics should increase monitoring activities by observing vehicles driven by student athletes and by working with University Transportation and Parking to periodically review parking permit registrations and issued citations to assure proper registration of vehicles.

this does not surprise me. we'd be stupid to think that everyone in a high office at the university wasn't in on this someway.

I feel conflicted about this. With only a few exceptions the OSU reps here are good posters; but the university and conference have always seemed to have a certain arrogance.

Just because they dont report to the department does not mean they are doing something wrong. wtf
SEC fans and especially LSU fans are arrogant as they come, down get me started on Arkansas fans

When it comes to NCAA compliance, we can afford to be arrogant.
We're the least-penalized top-drawer team in the SEC, and the least penalized team in last year's top twenty five.
One major investigation in 118 years of playing football. And that resulted in a one year probationary monitoring period without any sanctions whatsoever.

Refresh my memory, what happened that year that would make us arrogant?

and yet I find LSU fans (the great majority I meet) are still less arrogant that the majority of the OSU fans I meet.
And I never saw a LSU fan try to fight someone over them making fun of Tigerbait; can't say that same about saying O-H-0 and 9 to an OSU fan.

I said before that keeping Tressel was damage control for higher ups that knew they were in trouble too
This is the type of thing that gets an entire admministration fired

For cars not registered with the athletic department? Really?

When they know about the things Tressel didn't report, get back to me. If it is something worse then that, then you have a bigger story.
This is another non-issue as far as I'm concerned and I don't even really like Gene Smith or Gordon Gee.

Absent a larger case of a smoking gun, it will take a decline in donations to bring Gee down. Smith may have a bigger problem.
