Dog fixin question

I have a pair of German Shorthaired Pointer's, male and female. They are 3.5 years old now and I just figured out that the female is pregnant with her third litter. I didn't plan the first one, planned the second, but I wanted to wait a while for the third. I thought I had taken all the precautions, but apparently I let her loose to early. I haven't had any problems selling the puppies, and I like the idea of having a litter, but I do not want to her pregnant every time she comes in heat its not good for her, plus its a lot of work to deal with the puppies. Would you get your dogs spayed and neutered if it were you?

Yes I realize that, but it may do the male some good anyway, he is a little high strung.

1/ I seem to remember reading something on pro's AND con's of neutering- you may want to search it first.
2/ I think they (dogs) actually ovulate AFTER the blood discharge is showing and probably where you went wrong assuming she was not in heat. I'm not positive about that though cause I've never bred dogs, per se.

I kept her in 2 weeks after last bleeding. I thought she was through.

Unless you are planning on breeding the dogs, most vets will recommend fixing them. As female dogs get older, who aren't spayed, they are more at risk for certain health issues, including cancer & infections. Male dogs usually are better dogs once they are castrated, not as high strung & usually aren't as likely to "run". In your case, it seems like you are having some problems keeping her "safe" during heat & preventing the unwanted preg, fixing her is the ONLY sure fire way to solve that problem.

I've always fixed every dog I've had as soon the vet would do it. I don't breed dogs and I don't want to deal with the problems of an unfixed animal.

Was just thinking about "not" neutering my Cathoulla puppy. I know the problems about running off and the hyperactivity, but I'm just not sure if I wanna do it.

he is a GSP. Neutering will not change that. Go ahead and get him neutered.
