z cream of mushroom is not necessarily for added flavor, and normally i wouldn't add it, but if i'm feeling adventurous and it's in the pantry.....why not?

u should try it. now let me go google "abhorrent." is that french?

I have no problem using a jar roux in a pinch...

I keep a jar of roux in the frige, sometimes store bought sometimes homemade..

I also have a jar of dry roux in the cabinet...

IMO it works even better for a little added thickening

My Grandmother used to make roux just to freeze it for later.
