The third down pass to Meacham which was said to be just short. I think the spot was horrible. Why wasn't the challenge flag thrown to review the spot. It was well over two minutes left and we had two timeouts. That could have totally changed the outcome of the game and would not have hurt anything, epecially since we had one timeout left at the end of the game. If we get that first down the punt return for touchdown never happens!!!!! They are still my boys though, just venting.

I guess im just saying, why not challenge it, gives you some time to think about it and lets the D get some more rest.

yeah maybe so but if they knew it wasn't going to be overturned they may need those 2 3 challenges later in the game

It looked to me like he stuck the ball over the line..

Yeah it was close. I guess we didn't challenge it for the same reason Miles didn't challenge Jordan Jefferson's 1st down run on the first possession of the Bama game though.

Just didn't seem like the world hinged on it at the time.

refs are extremely bitchy about challenging their spots. I don't see them overturned very often, with meach coming back for that ball it would have been tough to overturn.

I guess we also didn't believe in freeman's ability to lead the team downfield for a TD. Didn't count on a ST gaff though

The WWL guys were discussing whether or not we should go for it before we punted.

I'm totally a "new football" guy and believe that possession is the end-all be-all of football. I'd have gone for it.

But I understand that with the unsuccessful fake FG not working in Atlanta that Payton was kinda up shite's creek as far as his political capital with risky unconventional 4th down decisions.

since we were treating that game like the end result didn't matter, we probably should have gone for it

the first half FG attempt though payton likely goes for the 1st 9 times out of 10. That was the one that actually bugged me and spoke the most about his attitude towards the game.

Really? I actually was okay with that decision ONLY because it put us up by 3 possessions.

If we had been up say 10-0 or 17-0 and had kicked then I'd have screamed bloody murder because it wouldn't have added an extra possession on there.

I am a big fan of "putting the game away" without surrendering the ball. I fricking loved Belichick's decision on 4th and 2 (although I would have done a better job setting it up on 3rd down) and I would have gone for it yesterday in the 4th quarter to ice the game.

I thought there were a couple bad spots in the game and a couple places where I was surprised Payton played it close to the vest. It almost seemed like we were trying to get out of there without getting hurt thinking we'd win a close one.

A tiny part of me is glad that we have to go beat Carolina on the road. I'm relieved they'll be without Steve Smith and hopefully without DeAngelo, but nothing would get this team's motor revving again like a good old fashioned arse-kicking out in the cold weather.

it just deviated from SP's usual philosophy of going for the TD instead of kicking on 4th and short.

and yes I'm glad this team is going to be put into a must win before the playoffs against a team with a pulse. They need this

even if they do put a serious emphasis on this game and lose you have a week off to recover from that. I'd like shockey and greer to still sit though because of their injury types. Especially greer, with a groin injury he doesn't need to play in cold conditions. I want ellis out there though.

Yeah, the clear lesson the past two weeks is you have to bring it for 60 minutes. Showing up for just a quarter and a half isn't good enough.

I thought SP was waiting to run down the clock before the challenge of the spot. Although it probably would not have resulted in a first down, once they get to the 2 minute warning, challenges go out the window. So it would have only cost us a timeout.
