Sam's club, buy them for $14/lb, take home and either steam, boil or my favorite is to thaw, wrap in a wet paper towel, then wrap in saran wrap and microwave for about 2 minutes (saw it on good eats with alton brown)

The absolute best is about 90 miles east of you. A place called Jourdan River Steamer in the Kiln.

https://www.jourdanriversteamer.com/

They have a pound or pound and a half jumbo king crab that is unreal. Unreal. The big order comes out with one 2 and half foot leg and a giant knuckle. Definitely the most impressive steamed dish I've ever seen.

Damn, that's got my mouth watering. Their menu doesn't list prices. What can I expect with the wife and I, couple drinks and dessert?

Depends how crazy you get. The place is very expensive, but also very casual. The service is as good as it gets, every interaction will be spot on.

We usually spend well over a hundred a couple, but that's why we haven't been in a while. The swiss crab app is impossible not to get, along the charbroiled oysters. When you start adding in all the makers drinks and creme brulee for me, vodka drinks and key lime pie for the wife it gets up there. It is a celebration type place for us, even though we are close.

Ridiculous.

How have I never heard of this place? How long has it been around? They do a lot of business?

I think I might want to check it out in the future.

It's in Kiln (pronounced 'kill' or 'the kill') mississippi. North on the second Bay St Louis exit. It's been there for a while, though it gets destroyed every time a storm comes even close to us. They have the outlets on the ceiling...

It seats a ton of folks, and it was doing great business last time we went. Like all places, there is turnover in the kitchen staff. That effects the pasta dishes and the steak specials more than anything. They run neat specials on weeknights, and have one man bands in the bar area on the weekends. It's on the river, so people boat up to it. He does really amazing Christmas lights. Live lobster tank...

I like the royal red shrimp, mainly because the heads are on, so they stay juicy. They pour old bay, or something similar, on the steamed seafood and serve it all with drawn butter. Good stuff.

Hot high brow like most NOLA places, but just as expensive. The Sycamore House and Confusion are our local critical cuisine places.

Not as good as the steamer. Hollywood also does all you can eat, again though - nowhere close to the steamer.
