Some people accuse Miles of being vanila and way to conservative. I was talking to a coworker today about the imaginative plays we have run over the past four years. I'm not talking about going for it on 4th down kind of stuff.

Off the top of my head I can think of-

The fake field goal against South Carolina where David ran it in for a touchdown.

The fake punt against GA Tech in the Peach Bowl.

The fake option where RP pulled up and hit a WR (forgot who) for a long TD against Va Tech.

I know there are others.

At the Chicken Sandwich bowl we also onside kicked it right after half time. That was awesome.

And the KW to Byrd pass against Auburn.

And the Early to Flynn pass against Bama.

do we need innovation? should we seek a coach that is inventing stuff that no one has ever seen before?

Our offense and defense for the UW game were anything but vanilla. Crowton and Chavis looked like they tried to throw in as much crap as they could in week 1, with a bunch of interchangeable parts (a lot more than most other teams)--no, there weren't a bunch of fancy or exciting plays per se, especially with Crowton, but there were a lot of funky formations and stuff that we tried to run a whole host of small, dinky little plays out of.

All the variety can be extremely ugly at the beginning of the season, but tends to make a team better and more dynamic by the end of the year and into the post-season.
